For a long time I wanted to see a movie of which I only managed to find the trailer on my way, I knew that its plot revolved around magic and that among the cast were Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, two actors I admire, especially Christian since I saw him as a child in the movie Empire of the sun, the film is called in English The Prestige and in Latin America.
The Great Trick
So a few weeks ago I finally found it in one of my streaming channels and I dedicated myself to watch it, it was interesting because I found a little more than I expected and with very good performances, basically, the film that is not recent (2006) focuses on the confrontation of two magicians, Their rivalry begins when Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) apparently convinces the wife of Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) to perform a trick that they were already performing with a variant, a different knot, the result is the death of Robert's wife drowned, in front of the public.
Because of this, these two men separate their paths and begin separate careers, but are dedicated to sabotage each other constantly, causing even injuries, some of them extreme, but this rivalry grows even more before the creation of the trick named Alfred's transported man, so Robert travels to seek not only to do the same trick, his determination is to improve it to kill Alfred.
What called my attention the most is that these two men become so obsessed in their rivalry that they end their personal lives. Alfred, who was married and had a daughter, ends his marriage and Robert is willing to do anything to defeat his rival, losing his scruples and showing that he is capable of anything to end the man he once called his friend.
In the same way, I was unaware that this film was directed by Christopher Nolan, who apparently feels comfortable working with Christian Bale because, as we can remember, he was the protagonist of what are for me the best Batman movies. This movie has a not at all expected ending, in which we discover how each of these magicians managed to bring their trick to life and the price each of them had to pay for it.
The truth is that I did not expect the ending, because when I thought that was the end of the plot, there was more and it was nice to see how in the end one of them manages to do a great trick to resume his life away from the rivalry he had with his former friend.
This film is based on the book of the same name by Christopher Priest and was nominated for two Oscar Awards, photography and art direction in 2006, which was the year of its release.
Among its cast we find Scarlett Johansson, Michael Caine, Rebecca Hall, Andy Serkis Piper Perabo, David Bowie, Roger Rees, among others, and as already mentioned, its stars are Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman.
In short, this film, which is already 19 years old, managed to keep me attentive to the screen, as I wanted to know how far these men would go having become so obsessed with each other and by placing us in another historical moment as the early twentieth century caught my attention more. So, if you haven't seen it, as was my case, do it on the MAX platform.
Desde hace mucho deseaba ver una película de la que solo, lograba encontrar en mi camino el tráiler, sabía que su trama giraba en torno a la magia y que entre el reparto estaban Christian Bale y Hugh Jackman, dos actores que admiro, sobre todo a Christian desde que lo vi cuando era un niño en la película el Imperio del sol, la película lleva por nombre en inglés The Prestige y en América Latina
El gran Truco
Así hace ya unas semanas al fin la encontré en uno de mis canales streaming y me dediqué a verla, fue interesante porque me encontré con un poco más de lo que esperaba y con actuaciones muy buenas, básicamente, la película que no es reciente (2006) se centra en el enfrentamiento de dos magos, que eran amigos, su rivalidad comienza cuando Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) aparentemente convence a la esposa de Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) de realizar un truco que ya venían realizando con una variante, un nudo diferente, el resultado es la muerte de la esposa de Robert ahogada, delante del público.
Por lo anterior, estos dos hombres separan sus caminos y comienzan carreras por separado, pero se dedican a sabotearse el uno al otro de manera constante, ocasionándose hasta heridas, algunas de ellas extremas, pero esta rivalidad crece aún más ante la creación del truco de nombre el hombre transportado de Alfred, así que Robert viaja para buscar no solo hacer el mismo truco, su empeño es mejorarlo para acabar con Alfred.
Lo que más llamo mi atención es que estos dos hombres se obsesionan a tal punto en su rivalidad que acaban sus vidas personales Alfred quien se había casado y tenía una hija, acaba con su matrimonio y por su parte Robert está dispuesto a todo con tal de vencer a su rival perdiendo los escrúpulos y mostrando que es capaz de todo con tal de acabar con a quien una vez llamo amigo.
De la misma manera, desconocía que esta película fue dirigida por Christopher Nolan, quien por lo visto se siente cómodo trabajando con Christian Bale porque, como podemos recordar, fue el protagonista de la que son para mí las mejores películas de Batman. Esta película tiene un final nada esperado, en el que descubrimos cómo cada uno de estos magos logró dar vida a su truco y el precio que cada uno de ellos debió pagar por ello.
La verdad no me esperaba el final, pues cuando creí que hasta allí llegaba la trama, había más y fue agradable ver cómo al final uno de ellos logra hacer un gran truco para retomar su vida lejos de la rivalidad que tenía con su antiguo amigo.
Esta película está basada en el libro del mismo nombre de Christopher Priest y fue nominada a dos Premios Óscar, fotografía y dirección artística en 2006, que fue el año de su estreno.
Entre su elenco encontramos a Scarlett Johansson, Michael Caine, Rebecca Hall, Andy Serkis Piper Perabo, David Bowie, Roger Rees, entre otros, y como ya se mencionó, sus protagonistas son Christian Bale y Hugh Jackman.
En resumen, esta película, que ya tiene 19 años, logró mantenerme atenta a la pantalla, pues deseaba saber que tan lejos llegarían estos hombres al haberse obsesionado tanto el uno con el otro y al ubicarnos en otro momento histórico como principios del siglo XX llamó más mi atención. Así que, si no lo has visto, como fue mi caso, pues hacerlo en la plataforma MAX.
This is a captivating watch and this is a must see for fans that love good storytelling and historical drama.
