Why would I ever bother with a romantic movie? I mean, they all are bad. I watch almost exclusively sci-fi/fantasy. There is usually some hard work put into sci-fis. Fantasy are sometimes cheap, but they still can have a thrilling story.

well if you have a few favorites in the Sci-Fi / Fantasy areas please let me know. It is one of my favorite genres as well but lately I have seen some real turds and need some guidance.
Heh, I have just written my admiration for The Expanse combat. Unlike other space sci-fi, The Expanse has a lot more realistic combat provided that we would fight each other in space. No magical shields around ships and such. The story starts very slowly, but nearing the end of the first season, it starts to be worth it (the article is in Czech, so I suggest to browse other's reviews).
The Outpost is a decent fantasy. Low budget is blatantly obvious, but dialogues between some of the main characters are incredibly well written and typical thrilling atmosphere of the fantasy world is there. I could argue some shortcomings of the story, but I consider it to be a fun show.
Raised by Wolves is a new sci-fi which I hate for I had a similar idea I wanted to write. The idea is a war between religious fanatics and atheists on Earth. Unconfirmed, the space body exploding in the opening might be Earth. A colony vessel was dispatched to Kepler system by atheists with androids and embryos onboard. When the androids teach children, they start to question atheism as there is a question 'why did they lose if they were right?' However, the show goes further beyond the colonisation of the Kepler system, but I don't want to spoil it. It seems to have a little bit of every sci-fi subgenre, but some choices especially at the end of the first season are questionable. Filming is decent, I hear the director is someone famous.
Avenue 5 if a British sci-fi comedy with Dr House in the main role. It isn't that much of a sci-fi other than the whole plot is happening on board of the space vessel. The plot is mostly drama but damn good one. A similar comedy with more sci-fi plot would be The Orville.
I think those are the best recent titles which are still being filmed on. I've got more but I like every good story in these two genres, so slightly less good show for me in this genre might be bad for others. Mentioned titles are probably best ones to recommend while avoiding shows known by all like GoT.
