Cada vez que puedo veo una serie policial británica. Encuentro en ellas cierto tono pausado, poco estridente, en esto se diferencian notablemente de muchas series americanas de los últimos tiempos donde abundan la gritería, los carros chocados y las balaceras. Los británicos han encontrado una fórmula en la que pueden ofrecer un producto que mantenga la atención del espectador sin necesidad de recurrir a los excesos y la banalidad.
Es el caso de la serie que les comparto hoy, Collateral, producida en 2018 y de apenas cuatro capítulos.
La serie está planteada en tono de thriller. Una primera secuencia nos muestra a un joven que hace delivery tomando el pedido de una pizza, pero justo en el momento en que se dispone a hacer la entrega recibe dos certeros disparos que acaban con su vida.
Desde esas primeras escenas ya nos advierten que el asunto siempre será más de lo que parece. Bastan apenas unos segundos de las tomas iníciales para crear en el espectador la sensación de que hay algo raro.
La investigación sobre el asesinato queda en manos de la detective de la policía de Londres, Kip Glaspie, interpretada magistralmente por la encantadora Carey Mulligan, quien ha venido creciendo como actriz con el paso del tiempo.
Las hipótesis sobre el caso comienzan a complicarse porque cerca de la escena del crimen hay una testigo, poco fiable porque se encontraba drogada, pero que aporta datos sobre la identidad del posible asesino. Este testimonio deja un conjunto de dudas razonables que por lo menos descartan el robo como motivo del crimen.
A medida que avanza la investigación el caso se va haciendo más complejo, cada nueva pista conduce a otro enigma.
Paso a paso la detective va despejando una madeja que la va llevando al mundo del narcotráfico y el tráfico de migrantes, en la que están involucrados personajes importantes de la institucionalidad británica, gente del servicio secreto M15, de la iglesia, de los servicios diplomáticos, de la política, de la Guardia Real…
No le va ser fácil a la detective sortear tantos obstáculos, pero su tenacidad hará que al final pueda llegar hasta donde fue posible…
Me gustan las series como estas que permiten tomar el pulso a algunos aspectos del mundo de hoy.
Al final me ha sorprendido mucho la sociedad británica que muestran, asediada por problemas tan complejos como la corrupción, el tráfico de influencias, la presión de la emigración descontrolada y la zozobra permanente ante la amenaza del terrorismo.
Es verdad que el mundo del espectáculo puede exagerar presentando situaciones que en la realidad no son tan fuertes. Sin embargo, una forma de crear empatía con el espectador y hacer que el producto tenga interés, es precisamente presentarle problemas que les resulten cercanos. Así que algo de verdad debe haber en lo desarrollado en cada capítulo.
La serie toca una variedad de temas. Algunos críticos han visto en esto una debilidad. A mí me ha parecido que están bien hilvanados y que se justifican perfectamente por el papel que juegan en la trama.
Está por ejemplo, el tema de la sexualidad entre la gente de la iglesia. En este caso tanto un superior como una monja, tienen que llevar una doble vida porque ambos mantienen sendas relaciones homosexuales con sus parejas, lo que va en contra de las normativas de sus congregaciones.
Pero este asunto se presenta como algo que está allí, no se cuestiona ni se exalta, sencillamente es una realidad con la que hay que seguir viviendo. Claro, estos dos personajes valoran mucho su discreción, están conscientes de su situación borderline, y del daño que pueden causar a su institución en el caso de que se hiciera pública su decisión de mantener pareja.
Otro tema recurrente en series como esta son los efectos de la guerra en los veteranos. Acá el problema de la adaptación lo presenta una mujer que a su regreso del frente de guerra ha sido destinada a la Guardia Real. Es este caso el estrés postraumático es tan fuerte que la mujer no logra superarlo.
No podían faltar los conflictos entre personas del mundo político. En este caso entre defensores y detractores de las políticas migratorias. La migración es una realidad que se ha instalado como problema en el mundo de hoy. Para países como el Reino Unido significa un gran reto.
En temas como ese no es fácil establecer qué es lo más conveniente, y hay una realidad incuestionable: ningún país puede dar cabida a todos los que huyen de sus territorios de origen por la guerra, la desesperanza o la pobreza.
Pero en medio de todos los problemas la serie sigue apostando al valor de la institucionalidad. Al final, lo institucional se mantiene, logra sobrevivir al embate de los sujetos corrompidos.
Sin embargo, la serie también nos advierte que siempre habrá una rendija por la que los malos se pueden colar y que les garantice salir impunes de sus tropelías. Es una realidad con la que también nos toca vivir.
La serie me gustó mucho, está bien producida, con una fotografía adecuada a cada situación. De noche o de día, en interiores o exteriores, las imágenes tienen la tonalidad adaptada a la atmósfera que se quiere crear.
Las actuaciones también están muy bien, destaco la de Carey Mulligan, que en su papel de la detective Glaspie nos deja un gran ejemplo de tenacidad. Aún cuando está embarazada no descansa ni un momento hasta resolver el caso. En todo momento deja clara su fortaleza y convicción. Personajes como este son esperanzadores en el mundo de hoy.
Otro gran papel es el de John Simm, interpreta a un político que se opone a medidas punitivas de la emigración. A cada momento le toca lidiar con los problemas que le generan personas de su entorno y que amenazan su carrera política. Es un personaje equilibrado que tiene clara las consecuencias de sus decisiones. El resto del reparto también está bastante solvente.
La serie la conseguí en Netflix, si tienen la oportunidad denle un visionado. Se las recomiendo.
