How I Started My Side Hustle as a Student

in LeoFinance14 days ago
Well, call this a business or side hustle, but I am earning money from it.

We started living in a boarding house (house rental) when I started studying at a university and as a business-minded person, I always think of ways to earn money.

I live with other students in this house. There are 6 rooms with 6 people each residing under the same roof.

Before I started this side hustle, I planned my strategy on how I turn it profitable and lessen the transactional fee for my expenses.

And this might not be a secret, but I think my idea is perfect and any other student will not think of it if they do not care about money.

I started this side hustle last year in January 2023 and still going on until now. I’ve been tracking the money in and out for this side hustle and year to date, I have a total revenue of PHP 4,869.47 while having a total expense of PHP 1,381.00. This left me with a total profit of PHP 3,488.47.

This is a complete side hustle that somehow helps me to provide for my needs and take advantage of living far from our house. Although there are some ways to save for expenses, I cannot start doing it due to some qualifications.

I will explain the business model of this side hustle, how can I earn money from it, and where the expenses go on my next blog.

So far, since I have several school expenses, I think I will stop doing this side hustle next school year due to lack of funds. I have to spend all my money and capital to meet my needs.

We have an upcoming OJT this summer and we are eyeing to live in Manila (with my friends) to get a better experience for our OJT.

So much for the story, I am now looking for other ways to earn money that I can do to support my needs as a student. I don’t want to drain my Hive account so I am avoiding spending my investment for now.

I am also trying to save money that I can use for my domain renewal before June 6, 2024, because it will expire by that date.

The next blog will be about not sharing your business secrets with anyone and how my side hustle works.

You can save a little by transferring your domain to Cloudflare registry. The current price for .net renewal is $11.84/ year. I think that is cheaper than hostinger, but their renewal prices are very hard to find. If you do this, you have to do it before the current expiration date. So please be careful, because whois shows the expiration date as 1st of June , not the 6th.

Thank you for this! If I will transfer the domain, do I need to face any issues especially for hosting?

I'm not aware of any issues. But I recommend changing the current renewal setting to manual so that hostinger doesn't try to renew it after the transfer.

Oh okay thank you! Should it work the same after?

and if I transfer it, can I still manage the admin panel in wordpress and hostinger?

Yes, you still manage the server through hostinger exactly as you do now. It's only the domain name registration that changes.

oh that's cool, I will study and learn about this. Will search on how to transfer domain lol

To be clear, I'm talking about just changing your domain registration. You will still have to pay hostinger for hosting (or move to a different host). I recently moved a couple of my sites from hostinger to namecheap because they had a cheap hosting deal at the beginning of the year. But I always use Cloudflare for domain registrations.

i actually have $10 balance on my namecheap account and i can't pull it out. Can i use it instead? But i think there is no free SSL certificate on namecheap

It's possible to move your hosting to namecheap. But it's not a trivial process if you have not done it before. I used the WordPress plugin, Updraft, to back up from hostinger then restore to namecheap - other migration tools are available.

Also, Cloudflare is best known for providing its DNS services. So you can host anywhere then let Cloudflare handle the DNS. Which includes free SSL. Plus quite a lot more free and paid services.

If I was doing this, the first thing I would do is prepare a spreadsheet with current costs of required hosting features. Then compare hostinger costs to the equivalent costs from Cloudflare and namecheap. Because you need to ensure that all the essential services that you need can be transferred. As well as confirming that you will save money.

I do hope all students are like you Lau, idol talaga kita 😁

Hahaha thank you ate lhes, I think I should also share a blog about my expenses with my leisure para balanced 'yung image ko 😂

I spent a lot of unnecessary things like a regular student din po😂
