Week on Hive

16 of 32 tracked posts made it to this week's issue of the "Week on Hive" roundup.

In the Spotlight

Hive at the NFTopia 4 Metaverse Convention Tomorrow

This weekend (3-5 May), Hive and its ecosystem will have a nice exposure alongside the WAX ecosystem at the free virtual convention held by @thenftopia.

Among the participants from Hive who will speak we should expect:

  • Crim, about the "State of Hive"
  • @aggroed (Invennium, co-founder Splinterlands) and @wagginston (Blockchain Gaming) in the Web3 Gaming Panel
  • AMAs related to various Hive projects

All Hive-related events are on Saturday. You can find more details from here and here.

Marketing / Awareness / Branding

Hive @ Web3 Summit in Dubai

A couple of Hivians were present at the Web3 Summit which was held in Dubai during the April 15-21 period. Yep, if you remember the heavy rains on the news and cars abandoned on the highways, that's the kind of weather the participants had to deal with. Among them, @crimsonclad held a keynote presentation in the style we are familiar with, saying probably all the right things with naturalness, without leaving the impression of being desperate to try to make any single point. You can watch her here.

Croatia Rally Aftermovie

If you like to watch the Hive rally car in action, there is now an aftermovie created after the rally event is over. You can watch it here.

WOO at WrestleCon 2024 Recap

The WOO team put together a recap of their participation in WrestleCon 2024 and what they learned from it: what were the strong points and where things could have been better (for example, they say they should have had more staff than partners present at the event, to better manage things).

VIBES Onboarding Contest

We are used to the VIBES weekly music contests. But this one is a little different, as onboarders of musicians are rewarded instead. Here are the details.

Governance / Development / Dapps

Value Plan Q3 Proposal

At first, it was surprising to me to see a Q3 proposal so soon... But after checking, it seems that by the time it gets fully funded (if that happens), Q3 is almost upon us. The extra month must be needed for large expenses that need to be paid in advance.

I read through the proposal attentively, as I always do. As someone who writes weekly news about Hive, I am surprised I missed some of the important points listed there (or they weren't properly propagated, or I haven't followed the right accounts).

For example, I learned about HIVE being added to Binance's Simple Earn Locked Products. I didn't know it was Value Plan's doing until reading this report.

I didn't know about Hive's advertising on the court of the professional handball team in Porto...

I missed the events Value Plan funded for the Polish Hive hub Krolestwo, and this is from this week.

I also missed the hackathons Hive was involved in India (this, this, and this). I still don't understand what role Hive played in the last one, which was Google's student conference.

Read all the details and vote (if you want to) from here.

Keychain DHF Proposal

The Keychain team also published its proposal for the next year's development funding request. I haven't read it yet thinking I will today for this report, but now I am too tired to do it, so maybe later... Sorry, I can't give you any highlights here. Read the proposal if you are interested. You almost certainly use at least one of their tools...

First Sprint of SPK Network Testnet's Results & Prizes

The first sprint of the SPK Network testnet ended. Its results and prizes awarded to participants have been announced by the team.

V4V.App Updates

Brian (of London) keeps us in the loop with the developments on V4V.App. For the user, the most significant recent updates refer to the ability to send sats to any Hive account, as well as the possibility to deposit HIVE or HBD as KeepSats (as he calls them). Depositing needs approval via Keychain, but spending KeepSats to pay Lightning invoices, doesn't.

Without using V4V.App for purchases yet myself, the option to have some KeepSats with which to pay for Lightning invoices right away, seems to streamline the process. Of course, I wouldn't keep too many KeepSats in my account. V4V still has Brian as a single point of failure. But the current proposal jointly run with VSC promises an open-source V4V and hopefully, more decentralization.

INLEO Updates

Buying Native HIVE via Maya Protocol Using LeoDex

LeoDex, the interface developed by the LEO team for Maya Protocol and its support for (certain) Hive assets, brings to the Hive ecosystem the connection to and from another ecosystem (Maya) and from there to others.

Selling HIVE for tokens supported on Maya was implemented almost from the start. The reverse, buying HIVE with tokens on Maya was introduced this week.

In my opinion, it is an easy process, with an interface showing progress at every step, which makes it more user-friendly than if nothing was displayed between the start and the end of the multi-step process. Of course, even the team warns that this is an alpha product and you should test it with small amounts.

Right now, LeoDex has support only for HIVE from our ecosystem, but will soon add SPS, DEC, and HBD to the list.

This is the introduction post for HIVE inbound transfer. You may also want to listen to the INLEO AMA.

Image Hosting Service Fixed

In other INLEO news, one of the things that has bothered its users recently, its in-house image hosting service, has been fixed, according to this announcement. I haven't had time to test if that is true, lol.

Projected HIVE Inflation - Next 100 Years

An interesting chart from @dalz shows the projected HIVE yearly inflation over the next 100 years. For those who didn't know, we are on a sharp realized/projected HIVE inflation decline trend until around the year 2036, after which inflation is projected to slowly go up again. There can be differences between projected and realized HIVE inflation, but generally, the trend is similar so far.

I wasn't aware of the second part (in italics). I thought once it reached the minimum, it would remain at that level. Anyway, this is a very long-term projection, but it's good to have some perspective sometimes.

Meetings / Events / Communities

Hive Sucre Partnered with The Largest Supermarket in Sucre for HBD Payments

I'm not sure if this is in the news category, because I see the @hatogrill supermarket account being created since February. But maybe they had a trial period, and now it has become more official. It was announced officially on the @hivesucre account this week, that's for sure.

That's another step foward for them! I believe the largest business they had integrated before this was Hola Supercenter.

Museum of Fine Arts from Caracas - Presentation Post

In one of the multi-stage projects on Hive - a partnership between Hive and the Museum of Fine Arts from Caracas - the official Hive account and a presentation post were created.

Week in the Crypto World

Roger Ver Arrested in Spain to Potentially Face Charges of Tax Evasion in the US

I know a culture where death and taxes are the only sure things in life has been carefully built in the US, and it seems taxes follow Roger Ver even after he gave up his citizenship. I don't know what looks worse for the American enforcement system, that he allegedly didn't pay his taxes, or that he gave up his citizenship. I thought that people attempt to escape from dictatorships (and they do!)... But from the land of the free? We know from Holywood that only criminals do that. 😀

MicroStrategy Decentralized ID

Unexpected plan reveal from Michael Saylor. He intends to have MicroStrategy build DID (decentralized identities) using Ordinals inscriptions on the Bitcoin network, where they hold over 1% of the max supply.

Yes, it's at least very strange that the first project they intend to build in crypto is an identification system. But I had no expectations from him. Let's not forget about the World ID project on Ethereum, co-founded by OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman in 2023. Seems to become a race: who will have the first identification system online that becomes mass-adopted, perhaps by being enforced?

Back to MicroStrategy's DID. Building it on Ordinals? Who will pay the transaction fees to store DIDs there massively? Or maybe that would be more of an elite club, those who have DIDs on Bitcoin?

Talk about a busy week, and difficult to cover that's for sure. The InLeo uploading fix has been wonderful. I have dreaded trying to put together posts on there for so long for that one reason and today it was a breeze.

The LeoDex sounds interesting to try but I may wait until the huge problems pop up and are fixed.

I found the Hive deflation chart fascinating, I hadn't seen it. We'll see if it really holds true.

I don't know how you found the time to put this all together, great job!

Talk about a busy week, and difficult to cover that's for sure.

Yep, it took more time than usual to put it together, particularly since a few important news came about right at the end and I hadn't had a chance to go through them at all before.

I agree. Even though I found a way to cope with the problems they had. I simply resized and compressed images manually till they were usually below 100KB but below 1MB they should've worked even before. For most people, especially frequent image posters on Threads, this must've been a big issue.

Yep, I waited at least a week since my first interaction with it before actually trying anything. My first transaction from RUNE to HIVE went through without any hiccups.

I found the Hive deflation chart fascinating, I hadn't seen it. We'll see if it really holds true.

Yep, I don't usually share these stats, but this one seemed to be of interest to many people. By design, this is how the HIVE inflation is projected. But it can be influenced by conversions, direct or indirect burns, etc. That's why there can be discrepancies between the projected inflation and the realized one.

I am really excited about the partnership of Hive with the supermarket. I hope this creates a domino effect with more businesses, especially suppliers joining in. Once things like necessities and needs are available to Hive, the individual adoption becomes even more enticing.

Yep, that's the second supermarket that partnered with Hive Sucre, after Hola Supercenter. But this one is the biggest in the region, Hola is the second biggest.

Those are really great developments. Now if only those in my area would do the same, that would be awesome.

Ha ha ha, same here. 😀

It looks like a lot happened and it's nice to see some more news about the Speak Network. I haven't paid much attention but I remember it being talked a lot in the past.

They are probably busy during the testnet sprints. Recording those long test sessions and making them public is probably boring for most people (they did this at least once).

One of the other weeks there was a development update for 3Speak too, but I don't think I included it in that report.

It's not always something people would be excited to read about, but things are moving.

The market is happy to see it back above 60k again today and we will see it slowly go back to 70k again as there are 11 billion liquidation.

You think? I'm not saying it's not possible, but what about the saying "sell in May and go away"? We may have a boring summer, at least part of it.

Wow
You were able to touch different aspects
