How Crypto and Blockchain Technology has Impacted my Personal Finance

Thank you boss, ok boss!

Crypto enabled me to be a boss of my own, it doesn't get more entrepreneurial than that, it's one of the best things that could happen to anyone with an entrepreneurial mindset.

I got to spend my time doing what I love, learning and growing both in knowledge, network and finances, I got to learn how to manage money and to make it work for me, non of these things came easy to be honest, working for oneself doesn't automatically eliminate stress, frustration, physical or mental fatigue from ones life, but at least you know you're doing it for you.

I'd been in and out of jobs for over 3 years after I finished studying in University, all the jobs I got either frustrated me or drained me in one form or the other, the best I got had to make me deal with monopoly, politics, unfairness of which I later discovered to be involved in some scammy activities. I was super close to getting arrested for something I knew nothing about, luckily, somehow I resigned before it all came crashing down.

Finding Steem Hive

When I found Steem Blockchain and the possibilities it embodied, I was elated, excited, motivated, it required nothing but my time and brain and doing what I'd already loved to do, then using what I earned to earn more through mechanics termed as curation, it seemed pretty unreal, but it was as real as it could get, I had no idea what impact it would have on me in the long run, but I wanted to fly with it at that time and give it my best shot and so I did with all my energy.

When it all began, things were quite rosy, I had few curation trails on by back giving me support, it was during the last lap of the bull run so my payouts were very sustainable, shortly after that, the dreaded bear market came by, curation trails were halted, I knew nothing or no one, I was just a regular everyday blogger, I was basically lost.

This pushed me further into getting to know the community and the technology behind what I called my forte, I got curious about things I didn't care about weeks upon my arrival.

Going Lean

And that was the beginning of my real journey. I began to network with people, I was constantly motivated and inspired to learn through others who had more experience than I ever did both within and out of my field and were willing to share. At the time Steem was my only source of income, do you know how LEAN one has to be to survive on Steem during the bear market? It sure wasn't easy.

There were times I was frustrated, scared, not knowing what the future held, not knowing if or how I would survive were Steem to go to 0, mind you I joined at $8. I was forced to reprogram my spending, go LEAN on everything including internet usage because it didn't come cheap. There were also fun times too, I remember getting my first airdrop byteball, wining my first contest, seeing my wallet grow from the first $100 to my first $1000 over time, then dropping all over again.

From curiosity to lifestyle

Something of curiosity became a hobby, then a lifestyle. Participating in micro tasks also helped increase my income, I was fully all in on Steem for a longer part of it till I began fulfilling micro tasks from other Blockchain and earning tokens from them.

Sometimes I will play the market with my liquid funds by buying some tokens low and selling high, surely it wasn't always a hit, in fact there were more times I missed than made a hit but I got better at recognizing opportunities over time. I got better at investing, saving and putting my money to work.

Store of value

One of the biggest impacts crypto has had on my finances has been on the side of helping me preserve value. Majority of my funds are held in crypto and ever since I've been in crypto, the value of the currency in my country has been on a steady decline, whenever I had some fiat, I quickly converted it to crypto, through this, I've been able to preserve a ton of value. Now I hold more purchasing power than I would've if I didn't convert.

It is interesting to note that there's no crypto story for me without Steem Hive Blockchain, everything I know, most people I've met who've contributed immensely to my growth, the skills I've acquired, my interests, passion, finance management, my hopes and aspirations, were all concieved here, Hive has been at the center of it all. There's no crypto story for me without Hive and I couldn't be more grateful.

That's it for me guys....

Thanks for reading!

It's really been a great journey man - full of ups and downs. But I'm glad you've learnt a lot in the process and nothing to regret.

I know a lot of friends who have given up because of the low value but you stayed back because of the huge believe you have for it. Well done bro.

Thanks bro, yeah same here, in fact all are gone, I can't name one who is still around. But it is what it is.
Thanks for the encouragement
Cheers

Likewise mine. Even the dude that introduced me to the platform back then is gone. I've tried several times to convince him and bring him back, but to no avail.

That's interesting what you say about using crypto as a store of value against declining fiat value -

That's precisely the advantage you see touted over and over again on every article about 'why you might want to get into crypto'.

It's nice to hear a real case!

Yes it is. I only take out crypto for fiat when I need to, its why I still feel HBD really does have a use, I've come across a lot of post with people disregarding it, perhaps I just don't understand.

I don't get HBD, I just think it'd be much easier if we just had Hive.

It's not as if it's a stable coin is it?!?

So you reach here when steem be $8? Omo I meet am for $2. It's been a rollercoaster but like I have said before: I will do it all over again. It like living off the grid. I don't have a day job or anything and people wonder how I can carry on some seemingly huge project. It's been God and crypto. Look me, a poet turn crypto enthusiasts. I am still making baby steps into the tech world as a web developer. It all started here

Man you have been on a long way in this blockchain. I am more or less new because I joined 2018 and didn't stay because of some issues I was facing.

I had issues with my phone and my system was faulty back then. So I would have to borrow phone to make content and yet, still don't get rewards on them. It was really depressing.

At that point, I was buying steem and the price was still over a dollar or so but I got depressed when it dropped real hard to 0.1 something. I felt that I have no reason to stay since I am not earning rewards and at the same time lost from buying. It was really painful.

I came back this year june, hoping for the best of it and it has really been going well for me so far. I have been building, engaging and connecting with users in the blockchain.

Yeso, I don tey small for here mhn... Its nice you came back, some people never returned. To build is a must so that the reap will be worth it when that big break comes.
