Hi everyone!
You would probably know, especially if you follow my blog, that Golden Retrievers are dogs that really like water.
They are said to be good hunters of water prey.
Fortunately, our Nala does not take the ducks in her mouth, but she really likes to hunt them in the water, like pigeons in the ground.
But what Nala likes to hunt most is woodsticks, even more than ducks, that's not logical in terms of instinct and biology, but it's funny ๐
And she couldn't hurt a stick, so it's better that way ๐
Unfortunately we saw a difference in her physical condition compared to last year.
Maybe it's because she wasn't used to swimming since the last time was in September.
But it's a fact, she has much less stamina than last year, she's not swimming as fast and she's losing out to other dogs who are swimming, which never happened to her before.
It must be very frustrating for her to lose her place on the podium ๐
We'll see if her stamina changes over the next few weeks.
But Nala is now six and a half years old and it is well known that dogs can get old suddenly.
So far, she's been very active for her age and everyone has been asking us if she's a puppy.
But we can't stay young all our lives, that's just the way it is, for dogs and people alike.
But for now she's still enjoying her swimming sessions, one of her favourite moments I think ๐

Sticks are good. I can't imagine what you would have done if she was getting out of the water with a duck in her mouth :)
I don't have personal experience with Golden Retrievers but I have raised a few dogs and 6 years sounds too soon to be called old. Maybe it is something temporary that annoys her and keeps her from going full speed. But even if she isn't the fastest any more it doesn't really matter, does it?
She is still adorable :)
I hope it's only temporary, I was also thinking that maybe her swim vest was over-inflated because it had just been readjusted, which would make her uncomfortable to swim in ๐ But the week before she was running after birds and suddenly stopped because she was tired, something she had never done before. But yeah, it's like humans, we can have little bouts of weakness, viruses, whatever. We'll see if it continues or not.
