The Importance of Mental Health Awareness

In the modern world, cases of mental health are becoming increasingly addressed and it is a good sign. I recently came across a blog on BBC News concerning this issue and it was very thought-provoking to me. The essay discussed how many people in the world suffer from mental illnesses including those who are in their youth such as myself. It made me think back about my own experiences and those of people that I know.

I never knew, growing up, how widespread mental health challenges were. If someone was sad or nervous, i used to believe they simply needed to “cheer up” or “calm down”. But over time friends and family have experienced depression, anxiety, and other forms of mental illness right before my eyes. For them, there is no recovery.

This piece of writing also stressed the importance of talking openly about our condition’s well-being. This could not be truer for me. Nevertheless, bottling up your feelings only makes things worse. Sometimes you don’t have to be fine all the time; That’s okay! We all have days where nothing seems to go right and there is no shame in that at all.

One thing the article mentioned that really struck a chord with me was the stigma around mental health. Frequently, people think that they will be embarrassed or judged for their struggles. But do you know what? Mental health is just as important as physical health. If your arm was broken, would you hesitate to go see your physician? Then why should your mind be treated differently?

Education in my view is critical. The more we discuss mental health issues, the more individuals will realize that there is no shame in any of it at all. We need to include mental health into curricula so that our young ones can grow up understanding how to look after their minds just like how they are taught oral hygiene and healthy eating habits.

Generally speaking, I realized how significant it is to give priority to mental health when reading this blog post. We should be there for each other and listen without being judgemental and let ourselves seek assistance whenever we require it. Mental well-being matters and it is high time we accorded it similar importance as physical wellbeing does.

I recently stumbled upon Dr. Paul Minot who has been practicing psychiatry for 38 years and he has some interesting words to say to the experts in his field.

That's really insightful.. ....

Yes, indeed.
