A lot of us think that we need some kind of mass adoption for Hive to rise in value, and I’m guilty of having been one of them. It makes sense. More buyers and the price rises. More adoption, more buyers. Growing in numbers is absolutely something we should be perusing but what if stabilizing and the price , and allowing it to grow much higher is much easier than that? What if one extremely simple App could change everything?
While we try to make this place attractive for buyers, we could also be working just as hard to discourage selling by encouraging people to transact in Hive. All this really requires is a well thought out marketplace, and something extremely bare bones would suffice.
All we need is a Searchable database of goods and services where people could list the goods and services they are offering, or the goods and services they desire. A clone of Craigslist would be more that enough, with the default location being “Remote”.
A majority of those who cash out Hive because they want to live more comfortable lives. They do most of their day to day transactions in Hive.
Am I that out of the loop or do we really not have a Hive app that does what Classified ads do? A Hive based Craigslist.
I am not tech savvy, nor do I have a lot of free time but if someone wants to build this please take my idea and if you want help funding it I would at least do my best to helping you make sure it gets funded.
Here are some ideas
The listings don’t have to be done on chain, only the transactions. If the listings are done on chain, it could invite a lot of spam and abuse, and there is no real reason for the listings to show up with other content.
Craigslist format would be perfect. Nothing too complicated or unique is necessary.
we should be able to search by country or also in “All” locations but the default should be “remote” to prioritize services and goods that can be traded from anywhere. This will encourage faster adoption.
There may be other methods of monetization but one potential is the DAO. I think this is exactly the kind of project that the DAO could pay for.
It doesn’t have to be perfect, if someone with more skill and better ideas comes along, then all the better. We just need a functioning conveniently organized listing. So even if you aren’t that skilled, feel free to try.
Another option is for one of the front ends to start, though I would prefer that if they did they could make it open source or even help other platforms to adopt it.
I need to stress that a lazy but functional version is better than nothing so no need to hold out and wait til you have the perfect design

On the other hand, if there are skilled developers looking to make something like this, or if some of the front ends want to get together, a collaborative effort to make a market place on each major front end, and a separate site to bring them together would be ideal.
Imagine that @naturamedicine @leofinance #proofofbrain #sportstalksocial #cinetv and others all had a market that was connected. Each listing could accept a preferred currency, hive and alternatives if they wish. This would not only increase the utility of Hive but also every single Hive based token and keep wealth inside of the Hive ecosystem. It would also give more reason for friends in countries with unstable currencies to onboard their friends and with an increasing amount of goods and services in the marketplace, it would deincentivize cashing out hive, decreasing selling pressure, stabilizing or raising the value of Hive and all of its projects.
I am starting to think that this is every more important than outreach because of the holes it patches.
I wonder if people like @eonwarped or @alchemage have too much on their plate. They seem like people who could help but I know how spread they are.
I know we used to have a tag for this before we forked but I think this idea will go a lot further if the posts are not done on chain and have their own searchable database.
Anyways I’m not sure how much help I’ll be but I’d love to let someone run with this idea and I’d be happy to discuss ideas about how to make it successful.
Edit: just learned about HiveList. I knew it must have been out there and I’m glad to know it’s @thelogicaldude behind it. I still think it could use some work to make it really a tool that people want to use for it’s intended purpose but I’d really love to chat with you if you are open to it @thelogicaldude. He is! I don’t know if he remembers me as @whatamidoing but I am glad to know he had this idea already and took it this far. I hope he’s open to these ideas.
I think ease of searchability takes priority over monetization of posts. Navigation like Craigslist would be perfect. Also encouraging activity that doesn’t feel like spam to anyone on the hive chain is important.
I’d like to make some quick easy lazy posts offering something or seeking something but I don’t feel comfortable posting that on my hive feed nor do I think it’s something that should be earning hive rewards, and I think a lot of people feel the same.
I’d love to help raise awareness for this project if it can move in this direction though.
I would love to hear any suggestions that I haven't tried, lol. Getting people to do things the way you want them to on this chain is like hearding a bunch of A.D.D. Cats. Lol. The issue with search is the limitations of the blockchain. Hive's search functions are, well let's just say lacking. Really the only thing we can rely on are tags. But then getting people to use the tags properly... well let's just say I have turned myself inside out trying to explain the tag usages, lol.
As far as monetization, it's the same as any other tribe on Hive Engine. You earn LIST and HIVE. And there is one special tag that also earns HUSTLER dollars.

I hear you...people go where people go. I think promoting this to the South American African And SE Asian users is really the way to go. Those are places where it has potential to make peoples lives easier and it also keeps money in the ecosystem cause that's one of the places where its leaking but I think the 3rd world is actually Hive's backbone, so we want more people there to join while simultaneously discouraging the cashing out of Hive. By discouraging selling, I think you'll find lots of investors in the project and people helping to promote it.
I have a lot on my plate but if I can help this project become adopted I'd love to do some posts about it and see if i can gather more people to help. The only thing I'm worried about is that I don't think a typical engine coin front end is ideal for the use case. Lots of respect though!

Yeah, well I don’t have anything else to work with on that level. The original version was built on Wordpress and used Exxp to send to hive but nobody wanted to use it so hence the HE front end. At this point I am not putting any more money into the development of it, already sunk enough into it and haven’t made anything off of it really. Until changes get made on the base layers and they can build a better compressor with a good search, it’s what we have to work with.
It's been tried on S----it but people got to greedy and screwed each other over. It's been a couple years so now is the time to try it again. I think it is more plausible now, or at least a Hive fiverr.
It's a great idea, I'm glad to see someone has something like it up and running. However, if I have to sell Hive, it's for food, fuel and rent. I don't buy much else, so it would not help those who really need to cash out of sell their Hive. We would still need to sell to survive. Also the geographical distance between other Hive members might limit the items one could offer or sell. Unless it were online goods and services of course.
Well if crypto takes off like I think it's going to, I think it shouldn't be hard to convince your landlord or local farmers to start using hive, especially if they can use it for trade rather than get involved in blogging etc. and maybe theyd wanna start blogs too.
What if you earned money for other work on hive and had more than you needed for life? Then if you wanted to pay for some kind of service you can do it on hive.
I agree the distance is a problem which is why it'd be much easier with 10k users in one city. I think that's possible in Venezuela and Nigeria though. We already have a core community and the way the world is going, a lot more people will be interested in Hive, and this kind of app will make it more feasible to handle the large influx of people who may be looking to supplement their income and might want to cash out, especially if they could onboard their sources of food etc.
Yes as crypto take off we can onboard more people to Hive, which has great throughput of tps as well as no fees. Hive is a perfect platform for mass adoption of a cryptocurrency.
