When it comes to the issues with social media, I always say it's better to have no personality than multiple personalities. A lot of people like to say their personalities online are different from their personalities offline which makes me wonder what they mean. It's like saying you are dark-skinned on the outside and light-skinned on the inside; it just makes no sense. Most of the people who do this are usually trolls and I ask them whenever I get to talk with them; how can a person exhibit what a character they don't have naturally… If you say you are something online and something else offline, it's not because you have multiple personalities, it's all a part of who you are which is revealed under different circumstances of what I call pressure.

This is why I feel that companies should endeavor to check the social media status of their employees online especially if that company has high value for ethics. I know a lot of people who post memes on their social media platforms and sometimes post erotic memes… You can't say such people have never thought about those memes they post at least. They might have not tried it per se, but they definitely have the potential to try it if given the chance because they have spent a lot of time thinking about it and making memes of it. In fact, I think the only reason they would have not physically tried whatever they are doing online (Whether appropriate or not) is because they have not gotten the real-life opportunity to do so.

I might be wrong, but this is my opinion which everyone is entitled to. I've always seen myself as a business developer and digital marketer and I use my online presence on web2 social media platforms to promote that, I've gotten a good number of clients from it, and I'm sure that just like me, once anyone is dishing out contents continually on a particular niche, it's only a matter of time before people will know and accept them for it. So why shouldn't companies look at a person's social media profile and activities as criteria for a job? Imagine hiring a customer service personnel who is a troll online. No matter how that person hides it, a time will come when they will reveal their true nature under pressure.

The company I'm working with now looked at my resume, alongside my social media profile and activities and saw that indeed I am who I claim to be seeing how long I've been dishing out contents about what I do. My honesty and integrity weren't questioned at all, instead, it was valued for its worth which was even more than I anticipated. Boss on my first day of work asked me my plans for the company, and to be honest I didn't have any at that time so I was just making my intentions known in a very professional manner until he said he knew I was a professional and I need no one to tell me how to do my job, from there suggested some inputs In my job role with utmost respect from him. This made me understand the importance of a good social media presence.

You are right. No matter how long, who we are and what we are naturally will reveal itself under pressure. This is a good idea and I believe companies would want to know their employees well enough before hiring them.

That’s true. We can’t separate who we are especially when we are under pressure. Plus, companies be it startups (smaller scale) or bigger ones should definitely look harder into their employees
