Social Media; The New Media

in HiveGhana15 days ago

Social media has become part of our everyday lives. It is now an integral part of our lives. Can we really do without social media in the 21st century? I would say no.
Social media has become a tool for humans to be expressive. One can easily put his or her feelings out there for the world to know through social media. The world is truly a global village now because of social media. One can practically know what is going on in a small town in Europe while residing in Africa.

Social media has its pros and cons, and we are all victims of two sides of the same coin. Well, some are totally against social media and will tell you why one should stay away from it. While others will highlight the importance of social media and give you reasons why one should be active on social media,For me, social media has been the biggest game changer. I have a friend who has an online business, and he testifies about how social media has been able to change his life. Starting his business, he couldn't afford to rent a physical shop; his capital could not cover the rent of a shop. He really needed to start something, and he started posting the goods he had on social media, and boom, his business kicked off, and he was able to save and rent a shop.

Do we talk about the social media influencers who are making a fortune from their posts on social media? Social media has been helpful, especially when the content is educational. So many people have learned new skills through social media. It has really made life easy, as our interactions with each other have been made easy.
On the other side, we can see a lot of negatives on social media. It has become an avenue for fraudsters and criminals to dupe people. So many young children have been corrupted through social media. I remember a young child making a statement that was shocking to the elderly people around him, and when he was asked where he learned it from, he said social media. We can see how parents keep their children away from social media; all this is done in a bid to safeguard the child.
The question is whether a prospective employer should go through the social media handle of an applicant. Social media is not a private place, and everyone who uses it should understand the perks of using it. Any post made is open for the world to see. I believe that a company is not breaching the privacy of an individual by going through his page.

I am about to employ one, and I will definitely want to know what kind of person he or she is. And now, the easiest way to find out is through social media. Most people say, "Do not mind what I post on my social media; it is just for fun." I personally believe social media is a reflection of one's content. I can't employ an individual whose social media handle is dirty. A post tells you what a person is thinking. Some might say, "It's a joke." Well, it is a reflection of who you are. No one is willing to employ someone who will tarnish the image in the long run.

An individual who lives his life out there on social media lacks a lot of things, like discipline, and can't be trusted with vital information. Others may argue that it's not relevant, but to me, it is paramount. Why would I employ an individual whose actions might cause me to lose clients or partners?

I don't see how researching a person's social media is invading their private life. My reputation is important, and for you to be an ambassador for a company, you must be disciplined and morally strong. A company is judged by how disciplined its staff are.

I believe one should learn how to keep secrets; not all things should be put up in a place where the world can see them. Social media has caused lots of harm to society. One must be careful. Social media is truly a place where everyone in the world can see their thoughts and activities. Our post is a reflection of who we are.

Of course, social media is not a private place so researching one’s social media has nothing to be with invading one’s privacy. If they didn’t want it to be seen, they wouldn’t have put it there.

Thank you for your comment, this is why one must be careful about he puts out there.
