"Hi beautiful lady, please cheer up, this is not the end of the world". My partner James said.
"I know but I still can't get over the fact that my best friend will be relocating, babe she would be miles and miles away from me!", I said sadly.
"I know my love but you can always see her whenever she comes back to the country or we can be so blessed that going to visit her wouldn’t be a problem", James said while rubbing my back.
"I know, I know, but it's so hard to believe my love".
"Yeah it is but you will be fine”, James replied.
"So, is it okay to take your mind off your best friend's relocation?" James grinned from ear to ear.
"Babe there's nothing you can do", I said affirmatively.
"You wanna try me?", James winked at me.
"Not like I am left with any other choice", I replied plainly.
"Ok Princess, let's get to it then". James smiled and pulled me to the bedroom to change into something more comfortable.
We both got ready and got into the car, a few minutes later we arrived at a Chinese restaurant.
“Baby, what’s happening here?” I asked confused.
“Just a little something to get your mind off your worries my love”, James my partner gave me his white toothy smile.
“Okay, I am beginning to love this”, I said pulling him into a hug.
We gracefully made our way inside and James was so nice and sweet.
While I went through the menu looking for what to order as everything I saw on the menu was strange to me. The next minute my husband walked in with some waiters and they started serving our meal, boldly written on one of the plates was “Cheer up my love”, I looked at him and all I could feel was pure love for this man.
“Thank you baby, I love you”, I said to him.
“I love you too honey”, he replied.
I was totally carried away by the lovely stunt my partner had pulled off not to notice the different food in front of me.
“Babe, what are these?” I almost exclaimed.
“Oh my love, this is one of China’s most delicious food, It is grilled centipede my love, and it is said to be very healthy.
“Grilled what?”
“Grilled Centipede love and it’s very crunchy too, you are going to love it”.
“Babe hold on for a second, you dragged me from the house just to come kill me here?
“Babe don’t say that please”.
“No offense to the Chinese people but I can’t eat this, I’ll fall ill young man!” I explained to James.
“Whatever happened to trying new things?”
“New things? This food that the centipedes look like they are about to attack me any minute from now.
“C’mon baby but you said I could do anything to get your mind off your friend’s relocation”
“But I never said you could kill me my darling” I hurriedly said.
“C’mon babe it’s not that deep besides we can’t throw the food away, just give it a try and you never can tell”, James said politely while rubbing my palm.
“Oh, Lord!”
“Trust me the Lord would be proud of you”, James winked and reached for a plate.
“Here you go love”, James handed me a portion, before taking it, I said a quick prayer to my maker not to allow me to die and he heard me and didn’t allow me to die.
The moment I had my first spoon I wanted to puke right away but I held it all in and my attention moved to my partner's face who looked like he had just seen a ghost but I saw him put himself together and in that moment, I burst into laughter and since my laughter was contagious he couldn’t help but laugh too.
“Babe what are we going to do now as we are screwed”,
“No idea my love but you see this food before me I am not touching it”.
I watched my husband ponder and restrategize on his next move but in all, he achieved his goal as he was able to take my mind off my best friend’s relocation and I felt better.
