Hello fellow readers, how are you reading? Today I bring you the review of a young adult book with a mix of magical realism and an inspiring story. I'm talking about Una sonata de verano by Spanish author Belén Martínez.
Trama - Plot
Este libro sigue la historia de un adolescente de 16 años llamado Casio que es albino y tiene que lidiar con la mirada del otro desde que nació por ser diferente. Casio está obsesionado con un libro que se llama Preludio de invierno que transcurre en un pueblo costero llamado Aguablanca y allí es donde va a vacacionar este verano para recorrer aquellos lugares emblemáticos por los que caminaron sus personajes. Lo que no sabe es que su libro favorito va a cobrar vida ante sus ojos y él será el encargado de darle un final a esta historia. Sin embargo, el camino estará empinado, muchos secretos saldrán a la luz tras conocer al escritor que le dio vida al libro y también tendrá que dejar salir su verdadera esencia, eso que lo hace quién realmente es y deberá enfrentar sus propios demonios.
This book follows the story of a 16 year old teenager named Casio who is albino and has to deal with the gaze of the other since he was born because he is different. Casio is obsessed with a book called Prelude to Winter that takes place in a coastal town called Aguablanca and that is where he is going to vacation this summer to visit those emblematic places where his characters walked. What he doesn't know is that his favorite book will come to life before his eyes and he will be in charge of bringing this story to an end. However, the road will be steep, many secrets will come to light after meeting the writer who gave life to the book and he will also have to let out his true essence, that which makes him who he really is and he will have to face his own demons.

Hace mucho tiempo que tengo este libro en mi biblioteca esperando ser leído, lo adquirí en su momento porque vi que a muchos les había gustado, me gustó la portada y la sinopsis parecía prometedora. Al leerlo descubrí que tenía una trama mucho más compleja y profunda, ya que es un libro que contiene algunas escenas de violencia intrafamiliar por la elección sexual de alguno de sus miembros.
I have had this book in my library waiting to be read for a long time, I acquired it at the time because I saw that many people liked it, I liked the cover and the synopsis seemed promising. When I read it I discovered that it had a much more complex and deep plot, since it is a book that contains some scenes of intra-family violence due to the sexual choice of one of its members.
Es una historia muy interesante de entrada porque todo el tiempo nos hablan de algo que pasó con Casio y sus amigos que eran muy unidos, pero de un tiempo para acá se distanciaron y él no termina de contarnos lo que realmente pasó hasta la mitad del libro. Así que te deja con la curiosidad hasta ese punto. Sin embargo, al correr de las páginas te podes ir dando cuenta de por dónde viene la mano.
It's a very interesting story from the beginning because all the time we are told about something that happened with Cassius and his friends who were very close, but after a while they drifted apart and he doesn't finish telling us what really happened until the middle of the book. So it leaves you curious up to that point. However, as the pages go by you can start to realize where the hand is coming from.
Además de Casio, tenemos a otro personaje importante que es Mark, el nieto del autor del libro que le gusta a Casio, es gracias a él que lo termina conociendo. Mark es un chico de la alta sociedad, pero no tiene esos aires de adinerado que Casio pensaba que poseía, así que también se dejan de lado los prejuicios en esta historia. Les adelanto que ellos dos van a tener una linda amistad y algo más también.
In addition to Cassius, we have another important character who is Mark, the grandson of the author of the book that Cassius likes, it is thanks to him that he ends up meeting him. Mark is a boy of high society, but he doesn't have those airs of wealthy that Cassius thought he had, so prejudices are also left aside in this story. I'll give you a heads up that the two of them are going to have a nice friendship and then some.
Pero esto no es todo, ya que es un libro con una historia dentro de otra, la de Preludio de invierno, este libro se merece un digno final que es el que Casio logró poner fin al descubrir todos los secretos que envuelven a la familia Salvatierra junto con los fantasmas que los atormentan en aquella casa que vio muchas tragedias.
But this is not all, since it is a book with a story within a story, that of Preludio de invierno, this book deserves a worthy ending which is the one that Casio managed to put an end to by discovering all the secrets that surround the Salvatierra family along with the ghosts that haunt them in that house that saw many tragedies.
Sin dudas, me encontré con una historia apasionante y llena de misterios por resolver, con personajes entrañables que merecen ser leídos. Además deja un mensaje muy lindo de superación, aunque por momentos es fuerte de leer por algunas escenas de violencia. Pero sepan que está más que recomendada por mi parte.
Undoubtedly, I found an exciting story full of mysteries to be solved, with endearing characters that deserve to be read. It also leaves a very nice message of overcoming, although at times it is hard to read because of some scenes of violence. But know that it is more than recommended by me.
