Steamed Vermicelli Traditional Cake

This morning was truly extraordinary, how it really thrilled my heart and made me so happy. From the moment I woke up, I wanted something, namely a simple and colorful dessert, basically made from grated heads. My mind craves it, I don't know why.

Until I finished the gym, chose some fruit at the supermarket and found purple sweet potatoes on a shelf. It seems, this sweet potato called me and said to take it home. Of course, I bought enough but at that time I didn't know what it was for.

After arriving, my mother in law said, it looks delicious if this sweet potato is processed into something sweet with grated coconut. He had the idea to make it into a traditional rice vermicelli cake, called steamed vermicelli cake. Of course, that was the first time I heard his name. I thought it was just like boiled sweet potatoes then mashed like getuk.

But I was wrong, after being told the recipe, I ate this somewhere. A little rare but not difficult to find. Usually they have colorful colors such as yellow, red, green and purple. Then, after thinking about it, I had to make it purple, because purple is difficult to mix with any color because it is already very dark.

Looks like my face really likes this sweet potato, which is usually boiled as a substitute for potatoes or rice (I really like sweet potatoes), it tastes sweeter and has lower calories, high fiber. So, the choice of consuming sweet potatoes is much better than other things that I don't like.


Steamed Vermicelli Traditional Cake
The Recipe

Before I start the recipe, it's a good idea for you to know some of the ingredients needed, they are very easy and in fact these tend to be raw materials that are easy to get.

Ingredients:

  • 1 grated coconut
  • 2 sweet potatoes (purple)
  • One pack of vermicelli
  • 1 tablespoon sugar and pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons tapioca flour
  • Purple food coloring

How to make steamed vermicelli cake:

  • Half an hour before making the dough, soak the noodles in warm water so that they become soft and easy to use.

  • When I got a good quality grated coconut at a shop, I asked for the white part only because other parts of the coconut meat were old, there was something that could be scraped off and it had a slightly bad color for food like this. Usually when I make coconut milk, I don't request something like this because brown skin can still be used.

  • The sweet potatoes I got were then peeled and washed, I cut them so they were easy to steam quickly and steamed them at the same time with grated coconut. This really makes the job of cooking easier.

  • After steaming and getting the sweet potatoes that are soft, then crush them using a fork, for a little while until they are really soft, you can use a potato masher and get the right texture to mix with other ingredients.

  • Take the flour, sugar and food coloring then stir until smooth. Then put the vermicelli in the bowl while mixing it and then transfer it to a place that has been smeared with oil.

  • Steam the cake mixture for 20 minutes, then remove it from the pan and wait for it to cool slightly or become warm so as not to harm your hands. Cover with steamed coconut and add a little salt to the coconut for a savory taste.
