Yesterdays conditions for Paddleboarding looked good enough for me to venture out for a lap around la Isla de sa Porrassa.

Go Slow

This is the first Paddleboarding video I've uploaded to 3speak and Hive and until I get a new machine I think it will be the last. The laptop I've used to produce almost all my content here (I was using a Phone to start but bought this machine especially) is 6.5 years old and really doesn't like editing video. I just about managed to cut this 2 minute clip from a 11 minute file and save with slightly reduced quality - the process took about half an hour :( If I am to produce a video with multiple edits, effects, and perhaps some music, I will need to upgrade.

Any ideas on kit around 500 euros/600 dollars?

The island named sa Porrassa is approximately 400 meters long and just under a kilometer from the shore here in Magaluf. Which means it is about a kilometer from my appeasement too.

Apparently it was used for 'salt collection' up until 1960, and is visited by many tourists who swim there. This information is from the Wiki page linked above, which I think should be updated to include that visitors mainly visit the island by Paddleboarding and those ridiculous Pedalos. I've also seen two people make it to the island sharing a pink inflatable, who were picked up by the coastguard on the way back as it was going dark and, from my balcony, they seemed not to be making much progress.

All the gear, but any idea?

I have 3 boards now (so yes, you can visit) which all have their pro's and cons, and yesterday it was the turn of the 11 foot Wave. This is my widest board (should be most difficult to fall off), and it also has a GoPro attachment on the front.

Yesterday I took both the manual and electric pump down to the shore but in the end left the electric pump running until the board reached 15 PSI. I'd normally put some manual effort in as the electric pump is really loud and I feel like a bit of a twat bringing noise to a busy beach. At present though that isn't a problem, and I also felt pretty confident that my bag of stuff would still be on the beach when I returned.

I got the place to myself

A quick look to both sides of the beach.....

And as usual for this time of year, there is no-one around. Thinking about it now, this was probably not ideal for a solo paddler heading out to sea wearing clothes with the sea temperature around 14.6°C / 58.3°F.

Conditions though were pretty good - little wind and very little swell. It took me a minute or two to build up confidence (I really did not want to fall in and so was not dicking around at all) but I felt stable and made my way around sa Porrassa in about 35/40 minutes.

I must say that Paddleboarding is not quite as much fun as when it's warmer and you are travelling with friends. So I'll see you soon? 😄

Cheers

Ash

It's great that you dare to do this in this cold, man. That was one of the coolest videos I've ever seen on the Hive. Unfortunately, video editing and such is deadly on older or poor computers 😂

Cheers dude, I was feeling a bit unsure about it but loved it once out there!

Thanks a lot! Not sure what that's saying for other vids here though! 😂

For sure, which is why when I can use my phone (like in todays post) I will - much quicker!

Yeah luckily we have faster phones these days 😅

I never went further than Bulgaria to the South last year. Maybe this year, me and my gf we shall try going to Spain also. We're now just back from Kuala Lumpur and she never seen Europe. I'e check the weather in Isla de la Porraza and it seem pretty mild for this time of the year. It might easily get to 30 Celsius degrees in May, I think. Will you still be there or maybe you live there.

You guys seem to get around, good stuff!

It's been over 20 years since I visited Malaysia and the Perhentian Islands, I guess tourism has boomed further since then.

The sea here will still be cold in May but it can be warm in the sun - I'll be paddling for sure!

The hotels are so cheap...we went on 34th floor with a p0ol at the 37th floor and it was about 15 USD/night. Yeah...the sea looks a bit chilly from what I've seen in your vid. Maybe we'll pass by in May or June. It depends how our arrangements will work out by then.

Magaluf? I thought you needed to be under 20 to be there. Is the Hotel Barbados still in existence? I stayed there twice when I adhered to the age rules (as above).

There was a great golf course close by, and I learned how to ride a motorcycle in Magaluf (without being told where the clutch or gears were, or how the worked). Good times and many embarrassing wheelies in front of tourists.

It's dead this time of year, and although I live in the thick of it, I can escape to my apt and see/hear little.

Here's your bike, off you go! I'm not fancying wheelies at this time but I reckon you did them outside my gaff - nice hill and plenty of tourists in season.

14.6°C / 58.3°F ?!? Brrr...That's chilly. Good thing you stayed up top else you would have left with walnuts and returned with chickpeas. It is beautiful though!

ha!

I really didn't want to get wet but falling in could have provided the same outcome as last months op :D

Loved it! Can't wait for the spring!

Bet the beach is packed in the spring/summer.

I'll show you when the seasons change - Magaluf beach, despite being quite big and sandy, wasn't overly busy looking to me last year. Let's see this year!

It must be wonderful to have such a beautiful place as your backyard. You can do recreational things like this that people dream of anytime you want. But at 14.6°C, I don't think I would have done that haha. Remember to keep safe out there.

Yes I'm really lucky to have this. It has taken a while to manifest and arrive!

The place is nice 14.6°C is a low temperature and its not easy to in this type of chilled weather. It must be fun in the summer season.. isn't

Yes that's the sea temperature - very uncomfortable if you get wet!

I’ve been using a phone too but I feel I should try using laptop for this platform and that’s why I’m working on buying a new system

It will help you a lot I think!
