A view of Madrid from the dome of the Almudena Cathedral

in TravelFeed14 days ago

A good way to enjoy a cosmopolitan, open and conservative city, as far as its ancient traditions are concerned, such as Madrid without a doubt, involves contemplating it, also, from the most genuine of its monumental heights and for that, nothing better than letting yourself be carried away by the charm of seeing it from the perspective of the four cardinal points offered by the magnificent dome of one of its most emblematic monuments: the Almudena Cathedral.

Perhaps, upon visiting, the curious romantic will not find any trace of that Quasimodo immortalized by the succinct pen of Victor Hugo and eternally associated with that other metaphorical Virginal star, which is the cathedral of Notre Dame of Paris and it is even possible that His animistic side is also disappointed for not encountering the overwhelming sight of those sinister gargoyles, which, since the time of King Solomon, have been used to guard the great sacred buildings.

But you will have, failing that, the charismatic presence of an Apostolate, also immortalized in the eternal fragility of the most delicate marbles, which, carrying their corresponding symbols, will show you, from the immeasurable eternity of their pupils immune to time, the vision of this noble city, which, without forgetting its past, has never refused to continue growing and looking optimistically to the future.

In such a way that, from these considerable heights, you will be able to get an approximate idea of that unusual, traditional and traditional Madrid, which, adapting to the circumstances of the times, has also managed to become the Madrid of opportunities: that same Madrid, which, while preserving its traditional businesses, has also known how to coexist with those others, who, coming from all corners of the world, offer a curious perspective of exoticism and multiculturalism.

All this, however, protected by the sublime vision of a vast and one could even say unusual architecture, which, in the manner of that Troy discovered by Schliemann, preserves, in better or worse condition, phases of those historical strata, marked for the outstanding monumentality of some architectures, whose antiquity and styles make them irreplaceable artistic guides of different periods.

So much so, that among the innumerable domes that characterize the Baroque of the times of Quevedo and Cervantes, the keen eye of the visitor will be able to discover the incredible presence of the Romanesque tower of Saint Peter the Old; the Renaissance domes of Saint Francis the Great or the Collegiate Church of Saint Isidore, aligned, like an imaginary star, with the most florid of a modernist and also futuristic architecture, which delimits that Center of Madrid, with the mansions of the Gran Vía and the great landmarks that mark the expansions, marked by the Pirulí de O'donnel, the great towers of the Castellana or that no less curious Moncloa Lighthouse, shaped like a flying saucer, which rises a few meters from Moncloa and the Iron Gate.

Of course, without forgetting that old road to Segovia, marked by the Manzanares Riverbank and its remodeled promenade, in addition to having a unique opportunity to contemplate, in greater detail, one of Sabatini's spectacular works, such as the Royal Palace , full, it must be said, of a disconcerting, if not unusual sculpturality, bordering, in many cases, on an esotericism, little or nothing known.
