Fort Lytton National Park is one of the smallest national parks I have ever been to and is just dedicated to the 1881 defensive fort near the mouth of the Brisbane River. It is only open to the public on Sundays. The grass was pretty lush and long as we had a fair bit of rain and humidity, which really makes everything grow faster. You can just make out a cement factory in the background on the north side of the river. The guns pictured are a 64 pound rifled muzzle, loading gun that is capable of firing a 29kg projectile up to 4 kilometres.
This place is a bit different from most of the other National Parks we have visited but well worth checking out. I have worked at many industrial sites around this area which is now know as the Port of Brisbane but have always been to busy to drop into this place until now.
They had a small museum full of lots of memorabilia, I liked the scaled models.
There was some more modern military stuff scattered around as well.
A local car club was visiting the cafe on site
All sorts of cannons.
This place does not look much compared to todays military defence standards but back in its day I suppose it did its job and luckily Brisbane was never attacked.
The communications centre.
It only too half an hour to walk a bit of a lap and see all of the buildings and get a nice view of the Brisbane river.
