Leaving your comfort zone can sometimes be disastrous

in Humanitas15 days ago (edited)

I have listened to so many motivational speakers on various aspects of human life, using words to see that humans are transformed into a life worthy of emulation and to achieve whatever goals they set to achieve. Motivational speakers are versed in motivating people to do certain things which ordinarily they would not have done. They focus on virtually all aspects of human endeavors like business, education, career, and belief systems, among others. However, the few motivational speakers I have listened to focused more on leaving your comfort zone to achieve your goals. Emphasis is often laid that you can't achieve your goals in life unless you leave your comfort zone. Whenever I listen to motivational speakers talk about people leaving their comfort zones, lots of questions run through my mind. Questions like, why can I not achieve my goals in my comfort zone? Should all goals be acquired through struggles and exuberances? What if my comfort zone was my point of strength? These questions most times are endless. Frankly, I have reservations about what most motivational and transformational speakers preach and I must say that not all they say are true. So many of such are baseless, impracticable, and fallacious.

When talking about leaving your comfort zone, fish in the river usually come to mind. Everyone knows that the water is a natural habitat for fish and other water animals. Hence, the water happens to be the fish's comfort zone. It would be foolhardy and nonsensical to tell the fish to leave their comfort zone. We all know that if such happens the fish will die and can't survive outside its comfort zone. This simple analogy applies to human beings, not all comfort zones are deadly. Most times we can exploit even in our comfort zone. I prefer achieving my goals in my comfort zone than stepping out to danger which most times might be disastrous.

It's high time people understood that humans are social beings with great elements of dynamism. What I mean is this, human beings are different in various ways, hence, no singular module can work on all of them. What I always tell people is that what works for me might not work for you. We are made differently. Therefore, if someone leaves his comfort zone and achieves his goal, it does not mean if you too leave your comfort zone, that you will achieve goals. The truth is first of all, you must know yourself. It is self-knowing that leads to self-actualization.

Nevertheless, most people leave their comfort zones, and their lives become transformed for good. Also, most people have left their comfort zone and ended up regretting making such a decision. Not all comfort zones are disastrous. Hence not all motivational talks should be acted upon and swallowed. Most times it is advisable to filter some of their sayings and take the one that one feels stood out well and is best for one. Also, listen to your inner mind, it always speaks. Words are powerful.

Actually not all motivational speeches are good for us because even the speakers too are humans and have their own shortcomings, I just picks what’s needed for me and leave the rest

That's how it ought to be

it depends on the context we place "leaving one's comfort zone" but as you said, the focal point is discovering oneself and do what works best for you.

That's the focal point.
