Hail to the Hive!
As we gear up to leave this particular Marina and stretch of the canal I am making the most of the rather scenic area and getting the drone in the air as much as possible and also taking the New Boat out for a test run.
The Marina here in Devizes is nestled nicely into a very green lush, and very English, part of the Wiltshire Countryside. It’s beautiful here, and I think we are going to miss it a lot.
We will be exploring some areas of the country we have not yet done by canal and then joining up to parts of the network we have done on our previous Narrowboat ‘Badger’ but this time I’ll be flying the little whirly bird way more often so be expecting more soon as I’m starting to get a real thirst for flying again.
So this week I just tootled out of the marina and chugged a ways down to a turning point ( or winding hole as the call it) and then chugged back to base. It didn’t look far but narrowboating is slow, and even slower when you have to pass by all the moored boats on tickover so as not to disturb the occupants.
So the ‘little jaunt’ took over 2 hours. But it ended up being a pleasant sunny day, so all good.
As I chugged along I was thinking about how I can stop more frequently as we travel to fly the bird seeing as how user friendly and set up friendly the DJI mini birds are. I can literally be going in a matter of a minite or two, which is why I have been more prolific of late.
So as we chug along the network I can see myself making little drone stops to capture the surroundings which are not always what you think.
I think it’s quite nice to view the canals from the air so you can see how it snakes its way through the surrounding topography. A beautiful perspective and one that eludes you when chugging along at canal level.

My DJI Mini 2 is a great weapon in my image capture arsenal and one I realise I under utilized previously.
I’ve included my latest canal vlog in here which incorporates what I have just mentioned in that mixing up drone shots with other material really adds a great dynamic to the visuals of any visual creative project. Please let me know what you think

Love the drone footage. Would also like to see some at a lower altitudes. Maybe even a Drone Operator Selfie from 20-30 up..😉
