Greetings from Dhaka my dear Hive fellows!
Just we had our Eid-al-Fitr celebration all over the world which is one of the two Eids for the Muslim community. Before Eid day, we had a month of Ramadan which is now over until next year. Bangladesh is a country with a Muslim majority region and they love fasting for the satisfaction of Allah and to get mercy from Allah.
This year Ramadan started on 12 March. There are 29 or 30 fasting days depending on the moon sighting. All the communities across our country arrange Iftar together on a specific day to increase the bonding with each other. This year our University organized an Iftar party. Most of my friends were from the CSE (Computer Science and Engineering) Department. They invite me to join with them in Iftar.
Though I am a student of Agriculture I have many friends in the CSE department. So, I attended the CSE Department Iftar party. The event was held on 30th April. During that time our 2nd interim exams were scheduled. That day I had two exams one was Statistics which is non-departmental and the other one was Plant Ecology and Crop Climatology.
At that time, I had my exams and also some classes for some courses. My classes finished at 3:10 for the sake of Ramadan. Usually, it finishes at 4:20 pm. In Bangladesh, for the whole month of Ramadan, offices, classes, or any institutes reschedule their working hours to let the people leave earlier for Iftar and start office hours earlier than the normal time.
Then I go to my apartment. It takes around 15 minutes. Then I freshen myself and make myself ready to go to Iftar in the late afternoon. I with my friend Naznin went together to the Iftar party. Then we meet our other friends Tanjina, Joya, and others.
Then we clicked some pictures together. Several hundred people were together, so the event was arranged on the premises of the University under the sky. The surroundings were very beautiful and the moment was calm and soothing as an Iftar party is not like doing a party in some celebration that we used to do with loud music or in some restaurants.
The Iftar time is the time of sunset. And for Bangladesh, it is the time for evening snacks. We had to collect our Iftar box and we collected our Iftar boxes by using our tokens. And then we sat together again and started waiting for the time to break our fast.
Usually, we do some religious activity during this time which is not loud just inside our hearts. We pray to Allah to forgive us, to save us from all types of diseases, problems, troubles everything that we think. We can only seek help from Allah and he is the only one whom we can depend on for everything.
After some time of waiting the Iftar time came with the Ajan (an announcement from the mosque for prayers) heard from the surrounding mosques. And we started our Iftar.
The Iftar box contains many things for our Iftar. The date is a must to break our fast as our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used dates for breaking fast which we all follow.
Among other things, we had a bottle of water, a juice pack, a pack of Chicken biriyani, and some other food items altogether.
That day was pure and peaceful and we enjoyed our Iftar together with our friends, teachers, and all the staff of the University.
