Saturday in the Park
Last Saturday, I went to the "José María Ochoa Pile" East Park, an urban park located, as its name suggests, in the east of the city of Barquisimeto, a very short distance from my home.
Although I have been living in this area for a long time, since the beginning of last year I have resumed the habit of visiting it frequently, after it was closed for a couple of years due to the pandemic in order to prevent its spread among its visitors, and I must confess that the park was poorly maintained, a situation that fortunately changed for the enjoyment of the local community.
One of the reasons that encourages me to visit it frequently, beyond the environment and the connection with nature that can be established in this space, are the numerous locations it has, which makes it ideal for those of us who are fond of photography.
And speaking of photography, I am particularly attracted by the contrast between the intense blue of the sky, the whiteness of the clouds, the greenness of nature and the ochre of the earth, especially in these times when the drought has been prolonged beyond the usual time throughout the national territory, when in previous years, the month of May marked the beginning of the rainy season that usually extends until late October or early November.
El pasado Sábado, acudí al Parque del Este José María Ochoa Pile, un parque urbano situado, como su nombre lo sugiere, en el este de la ciudad de Barquisimeto, a muy corta distancia de mi hogar.
Aunque tengo mucho tiempo viviendo en este sector, en verdad desde principios del año pasado he retomado la costumbre de visitarlo con frecuencia, luego de que estuviese un par de años cerrado por la pandemia con el fin de evitar su propagación entre sus visitantes, además, debo confesar que el parque contaba con poco mantenimiento, situación que afortunadamente cambió para el disfrute de la colectividad local.
Una de las razones que me anima a visitarlo con frecuencia, más allá del entorno y de la conexión con la naturaleza que pueda establecerse en este espacio, son las numerosas locaciones con las que cuenta, lo que hace propicio para quienes somos aficionados a la fotografía.
Y hablando de fotografía, en lo particular me atrae el contraste entre el azul intenso del cielo, la blancura de las nubes, el verdor de la naturaleza y el ocre de la tierra, especialmente en estos tiempos en que la sequía se ha prolongado más allá del tiempo usual en todo el territorio nacional, cuando en años anteriores, el mes de Mayo marcaba el inicio de la temporada de lluvias que suele extenderse hasta finales de Octubre o principios de Noviembre.
On weekends, the park usually brings together many people who come with family and friends to spend time, as well as those who practice some activity such as yoga, capoeira (dance and sport of Afro-Brazilian origin), in addition to local scout groups, even young fans of astronomy, so that in these spaces a wide range of activities to suit all ages and all tastes is developed.
One of the biggest attractions is the presence of a lagoon where it is possible to rent a rowboat for a small fee to navigate its shallow waters, which have recently been populated with some species of fish.
Finally, this is my first participation, of which I hope there will be many in the future, in this initiative aimed at amateur photographers who do not have expensive equipment, but do have a cell phone and a growing enthusiasm for the constant search for images.
Los fines de semana, el parque suele reunir numerosas personas que acuden con familiares y amigos para pasar el tiempo, así como quienes practican alguna actividad como yoga, capoeira (baile y deporte de origen afrobrasileño), además de grupos locales de scouts, incluso, jóvenes aficionados a la astronomía, por lo que en estos espacios se desarrolla una amplia oferta de actividades para satisfacer todas las edades y todos los gustos.
Uno de los mayores atractivos, es la presencia de una laguna en la que desde hace poco tiempo, es posible rentar por una módica tarifa un bote de remos para navegar sus poco profundas aguas, las cuales se han venido poblando recientemente con algunas especies de peces.
Finalmente, esta es mi primera participación, de las que espero en el futuro sean muchas, en esta iniciativa dirigida a fotógrafos aficionados que no contamos con costosos equipos, pero sí con un teléfono móvil y un entusiasmo creciente por la búsqueda constante de imágenes.
