Despite being tired of his theatrical style, Cody Rhodes’ popularity in WWE still surpasses that of any other wrestler. In Jacksonville at Friday Night SmackDown, he was treated like a returning hero.
Rhodes was present at a contract signing with the United States Champion Logan Paul for King & Queen of the Ring in Saudi Arabia which leads into their match for the WWE Championship. They were officially announcing their fight during King & Queen of the Ring event in Saudi Arabia where both belts were supposed to be on the line.
During this segment, Logan Paul tore up the contract saying that he never agreed to put his United States title at risk but only wanted to challenge for Cody’s WWE Championship. The SmackDown General Manager, Nick Aldis claimed that they had reached an agreement for a winner takes all contest and could not accept any alteration.
In another surprise twist, Cody instructed Aldis to thereby taking charge himself. This showed how much power and influence Cody’s character has as it demonstrated what kind of character he is portraying.
Aldis being gone, Cody and Logan kept clashing. Cody called Logan a “human hat rack,” mocking him and mentioned how Mike Tyson would defeat Jake Paul in their upcoming boxing match.
The live crowd loved this exchange; they cheered loudly for Cody. This was clever of WWE to avoid both belts being at stake because neither Cody nor Logan should be losing the belts as it stands now; thus they avoided a messy finish while still advancing the story.
This episode of SmackDown did an excellent job of building excitement for the King & Queen of the Ring event. Cody Rhodes remains one big draw while even in his somewhat hero kinda heel role, Logan Paul thrives excellently. This builds up a good storyline going into Saudi Arabia for what promises to be an exciting match, and I can’t wait to see how things unfold.
