Just when we thought we were going to grow webbed feet the sun came out. There had been more than 20 inches of rain for this cycle - that is just under half what we get on average in a full year. This would be a good chance to get on the bike to go orchid hunting. Nope. Got busy on other stuff.
Took the cop out - drive to the middle access point to Seven Mile Beach and walked from there. First photo tells bot stories - been a lot of rain and a blue sky
Was a mushroom day - no surprise there - sadly at least half the photos were not focused enough. Need a bit more patient - these reddish ones are easier as they do not concentrate the light like the pale ones
Access track has a few places where the greenhoods do well - each cut out they created for the fire trucks to pass
Budding helmet orchid somewhat hidden - the only one for the day - corysanthes aconitiflorus
There were a lot of pixie caps orchids flowering. Almost every one had a pollinator present - the little fly. Flower is really small and hard to get crisp focus. Keeping this one as it shows a pollinator busy and the yellow of the column is visible
This photo is much crisper - pollonia is visible as are the calli on the labellum - acianthus fornicatus
Greenhood rosette - got a feeling the photographer focused on the mushroom. It is more in focus than the flower just pushing up a new leaf. Size of the mushroom - US penny
Big cluster of acianthus orchids - not often are there 10 or more plants flowering in a spot
My mushroom friends always ask for underside photos - too bad the top side photo was out of focus.
Fungal form - the white grabs all the light
Greenhood rosette - different to the last with smooth edges to the leaves and a small stalk - guessing nodding greenhood. Bud just forming
Yellow mushroom pushing through the leaf litter
Nodding greenhood a bit further along - say two weeks to flowering
More mushroom photo challenge - did two photos - one with sun shielded and one naked. The shielded one was out of focus = light works for focus. Did quite some adjusting to tone down the birghtness and reduce exposure
Less work needed on this one - change light balance - enough is in focus to pass OK
Bolete pushing through the leaf litter
This one was saucer size which makes for a different photo focus challenge
Alongside was this one - same size. Top down picture was out of focus but the underside photo is good enough to be shared
Did the walk to the beach. Waves are chopped up and a lot of foam - sky is clear and not too much spray haze - looking north to Gerroa
Looking south past Shoalhaven Heads
Another example of how hard it is to photograph a white mushroom. This one looks like a parachute and the softness of the canopy is just like that
There are always native violets flowering - tookna while to find one good enough for a photo and facing the right way
Stopped at almost every acinathus orchid to check for pollinator photos - worth doing
The beauty of walking the same track over and over is one gets to know what to look for where. This is a good example - looks like grass
Study the spike of this orchid below the flower. That leaf is what I saw in the spot before - cobra greenhood lining up - this one flowering fully
This one lining up - pterostylis grandiflora. Good to see 4 or 5 buds - last year only one
Climbing vine
More mushroom action.
Dud walk the side track not far from the road. All the greenhood rosette photos were not good enough. Will walk it again next week to get better.
Was good to be out walking without and umbrella. Birds were very active and no leeches. The lazy way worked.
Dinner was rehash of the spicy lamb dish from the other day. Honey and water and rice tamed the beast
Trade action: More uranium plus manganese
