Hello, music lovers! π΅
It's a Tuesday, so it's time for #threetunetuesday and a chance to share something I'm listening to.
My last post here was a month ago, and continuing with the music, I'm recalling memories from the past with you.
Today, I would like to remember Steve Albini, a musician who passed away a month ago. He was better known as a producer and audio engineer in the music world, but he was also a guitarist and singer in several bands. Albini will go down in history for creating the sound of many artists who later achieved worldwide fame.
To name a few:
The Pixies - Surfer Rosa (1988), Nirvana - In Utero (1989), PJ Harvey - Rid Of Me (1991), Iggy Pop and the Stooges - Weirdness (2007), Fugazi - In on the Kill Taker (1993).
Of course, I'm still listening to all of them, and that's one of the reasons I wrote this post.
He was known for his perfectionist approach to production and for wanting to capture his bands' raw and authentic sound. His work significantly influenced the development of alternative and indie rock in the 1990s.

In addition to his work as a producer, Albini is also recognized as a guitarist and performer. He has released several solo albums and played guitar in various bands. I will highlight three of his bands, none of which have achieved commercial success in the traditional sense, but none have ever aimed for mainstream popularity.
Big Black - Kerosene
The song is from Big Black's first album, Atomizer, which was released in 1985. It has an aggressive and energetic sound, characteristic of Big Black, making it one of their most recognizable works.
Rapeman - Just Got Paid
Rapeman was a noise rock band he formed with bassist David Sims of The Jesus Lizard. They only released one album, Two Nuns and a Pack Mule 1988, from which the song Just Got Paid is taken.
Upon closer listening, you'll discover that 'Just Got Paid' covers the ZZ Top hit from their 1972 Rio Grande album. It tells the story of a man eagerly planning to spend his hard-earned paycheck on a memorable party.
Shellac - Mouthpiece
Band Shellac is known for its unique and uncompromising sound, which combines rock, jazz, and noise elements. Their songs are often long and instrumental, yet full of energy and innovation. The song 'Mouthpiece' is from their second album, Terraform, released in 1998.

I hope today's selection was interesting. Steve Albini was a fascinating person. He will be written about a lot, I am sure. And there will be a lot of (as yet) unreleased recordings, demos and so on coming out of his studio.
