At the top of Death Mountain

Hi.

Not far from Votto-Vaary mountain ("not far" by the standards of the Karelian taiga, of course) there is a small mountain (you can say "sopka"), which during the Great Patriotic War was the site of the last battle of the First Partisan Brigade. Actually, thanks to this place, we all learned about the existence of Votto-Vaara.

After all, although the mountain is large, it is located in a remote taiga, very far from any human habitation. And her discovery was a pure accident. Although many people claim that there are no accidents in life. It's just that we can't always see the patterns that led to one result or another.

Now these are just picturesque places. Enthusiasts laid out a ladder made of stone slabs of local rock on the top of Death Mountain. An obelisk to the fallen partisans is installed at the very top.

We honored the memory of the fallen soldiers with a minute of silence and heard the story of their feat.

From this height there is a beautiful view of the Karelian taiga. It is hard to believe that only a few decades ago there were fierce battles here. An art book "Beyond the Mercy Line" was written about this campaign of the partisan detachment. Later, after returning home from Karelia, I read it.

But it was already time for us to return to the base camp. To make the first foray to the very mountain of Votto-Vaaru.

Thank you for your interest in my stories and photos.
