Easier Days, Sort Of… - May 8 & 9, 2024 @goldenoakfarm

On Wednesday I was pretty wiped out from the mowing and tree cutting plus it had started to rain at 6AM. So the Small garden wouldn’t be done. My general helper showed up at 8AM and I finally got my act together and we headed out to do errands and shopping.

We got home about 10:30AM and planned to do some cooking. We decided on vegetable cheese patties. But we had a lot of trouble cooking them in a frypan as the cheese would stick down. Finally we put them in the oven with parchment paper and they were a lot better, both in how they cooked and tasted.

I had a nurse coming to evaluate me for trying to get my home help back in the afternoon, as it sounds promising. The problem has been how much co-pay I have to make per hour. Once that’s sorted, then we can move ahead.

I was completely wiped out after that and fell asleep instill 5:45PM. I made supper, did chores and was in bed by 7PM.

Each morning when I go to the barn, Dennis the Girl meets me at the door. Sometimes she does her little dance on her hind legs, but because I was juggling a camera and her breakfast, it was different how I moved and she didn’t dance. But she still demanded breakfast.

But once the breakfast was in front of her, she didn’t mind me taking flash pictures.

On Thursday I was still not doing well. My brother was to have his mattress and box spring exchanged (they had brought the wrong one the first time) and they showed up at 9:30AM. I spent most of the day running loads of dishes through the dishwasher and reading.

In the afternoon I went to a quilling class at the Senior Center.

She had us learn the various shapes and glue them onto the chart. Then I started making a flower with blue petals and a yellow center and some leaves. I didn’t get them fastened onto the frame so you just see the various parts.

It was quite fun and with the specialized tools she had provided everyone, it was easy for me to do, even with my bad hands. They are going to do another class sometime, so maybe I can finish my project.

In the early evening it occurred to me I now had sweet pea seeds and could replant. So I pulled up all the grass and found 3 of the seeds had come up. I’d gotten 4 different types, 2 very fragrant and 2 very pretty and put some of both in. Now I wait…

On Friday, it’s to rain in the morning, so no garden work. In the afternoon I have another event at the Senior Center. And I have to finish laundry and dishes.

Sort:

Errands and shopping on a rainy day! Looks cool to me, at least a break from the usual gardening. 😊

It's great you are slowed down a bit. I think Dennis the girl might have missed you a lot.
The quilling class looks interesting and the exercise would be too.

I think Dennis the Girl just LOVES wet food. She's really still feral after all these years, as she's 9 years old now.

Maybe you would share the quilling technique with us, one of these days, it looks very interesting.
You really did a great job mowing and cutting trees the last time.

We used specialized tools to make the paper shapes. All the equipment and paper were left there, so I can’t finish my project until they have another class.

The cloud is so beautiful!

Is Dennis the girl the name of your cat? What a cute name for her

Yes, she's a rescue from a hoarder situation. He thought she was a boy until it was obvious she wasn't. He had named her Dennis so the rescue called her Dennis the Girl.

I wish it could rain over here, the heat is something else.
At least you got your chores done and the rain didn't stop you.
I thought your cat was Larry or am I mistaken? 😊

The house cat is Larry. The barn cat is Dennis the Girl.
