On Thursday morning I got the kitchen cleaned up, chores done, and then wasted an hour trying to use my husband’s ultrasonic cleaner on the silver. In the end, I just used the silver polish as I always have. The cleaner didn’t have the right formula for silver. If I want to use it, I will have to get some.
Some of the silver, which I have used every day since 1974, had gotten quite tarnished, almost black. It has been cleaned many times before, just not recently. It took a long time to clean those pieces. I finally finished around noon.
Then I started the house cleaning, dusting and polishing everything in the dining room. My son ran the vacuum around.
Then I moved into the living room. The house plants looked particularly sad, as I’d not tended them in months. So I sat down and started cleaning them up. I got them all done and they look a whole lot better now.
Then I started dusting and polishing in there and got it about half done. I had to keep taking rests every hour or so and didn’t quit until 7PM. I was halfway around the room.
On Friday I hope to finish it, scrub the kitchen floor for the first time (it’s been washed but not cleaned since construction), and then put polish on it for the first time. Something I’ve been wanting to do for years.
I need to wash the dining room and living room floors too. My son said he’d clean the bathroom. Then I can start setting up for the potluck. It looks like there will be 6 coming. I have 2 salads to make and am contemplating doing a protein filled main meal.

Yes, it was crazy, but I was on a roll and REALLY wanted a clean house, as far as I got.

What does the ultrasonic cleaner do to the silver? To make it more clean or what?
It’s supposed to remove the tarnish, leaving it shiny again.

Silver plates from thirty years ago, that's a long time of use. I hope cleaning them all was not too stressful?
It took a long time, but they are so pretty when done. It's my every day silver, so I get to enjoy it all day long.
That’s quite a pile of silver to be cleaned! You worked so hard to get all the cleaning done. I hadn’t done proper cleaning of the house for ages. I wish I wasn’t so lazy and lethargic at times.

You must be very hygienic, look at the way you are dusting and vacuuming the whole house just to flush out anything called dirt from all corners, i love that
Well, I’d like to be but the house hasn’t been seriously cleaned in over a year. My helper friend and I used to give each room a thorough cleaning, one room a week, over the winter. But I can’t have him any more, so I am just getting to the worst of it now.
