STEEMFAT: The eternal struggle - Drinking Beer vs Working out.

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Don't forget that we are going to the Fenix Food Factory Saturday night, Bianca said today.

I sigh, do I really have to drink beer again with friends....

The Steemfat struggle is real.

Life is just too much fun.

I have been putting in some extra hours at the gym because I already know what's coming.

The last time I went there I was with my friends Ben ( @bennierex), Yves ( @eqko) and Fabio ( @fabrew).

I don't even remember how we got home.

The problem with that place is the beer is magical.

This is not just your average pint.

It's liquid Gold created by the gods themselves.

Barrel aged beer.

The eternal struggle - Drinking Beer vs Working out.

The only way to prevent said events is by not going. But were's the fun in that?

And this is the problem for anyone that enjoys the good life and wants to get in shape.

They don't always mix.

This story is just one of them.

I was talking to my dad about it last night.

He said, 'Mark, I got a belly around your age. I decided to just keep it and enjoy my food and drinks'.

An honorable decision I guess.

But one I'm not willing to take.

Steemfat should have ended in two weeks with a completely ripped yours truly.

I got very far, but to make it to the finish line I will have to eat a diet of only carrots and even I don't have that dedication.

I did learn though that it is possible to enjoy life like I do and stay in shape-ish. I am very proud of what I achieved.

After Steemfest 2 I'll just continue on this quest.

Rename it Steemfat: my journey to stay in shape-ish for steemfest 3 and keep going.

I like that idea already.

Ah yes, my friend, you raise the eternal question. In life we have the dilemma of two equally persuasive goals. Leon Festinger came up with the concept of Cognitive Dissonance years ago when he talked about two opposing forces pulling us in opposite directions.

We know that working out is good. Moderate and proper exercise is good for our health both mentally and physically. Not only do we know this intellectually (we've all read magazines and heard about it), but we know it viscerally when we feel those endorphins and dopamine juice kick in.

However, that tasty beer can be mighty persuasive. A nice glass of just the right beverage at just the right time can be tasty, relaxing, and many medical studies do in fact back up the health benefits of moderate amounts. Sharing it with good friends makes for a well-lived life.

Ah, there's the rub, as they say. So what's a struggling Steemian to do? I go back to that time-honored adage to embrace moderation. Yes, that is easy to say, and almost expected in a discussion like this. However, it has wisdom. A moderate amount of beer seriously can be healthy. I've studied a wee bit of the benefits of one of my favorites, Japanese sake and yes, there are many physical, medial benefits. Those wonderful people in Russia tell us about the benefits of vodka. Used in the right proportions, these and other alcoholic beverages can be beneficial to your health.

Again, moderation is a key.

I'll leave this with a quote from my fellow American, Mark Twain ,who wisely told us, "Moderation in all things --- including moderation!"

Be well my friend. Thank you for sharing this!

I like that eat carrots.
you always put something that capture my attention and a good sense of humour.
I drink beer but it becomes a lifestyle. Taste wise, don't know what to say.
Get ready to steemfast.
Keep on steemit.

@exyle I know this may not matter to you right now but I have not drank any alcohol since 10/21/1990. This week is my Sobriety Birthday and if I don't drink any alcohol for the next 2 days I will be 27 years FREE. I feel very good about this. Do what you need to do and ENJOY your LIFE and STEEM ON !

Wow! That's an amazing achievement. Man, congratulations! And you are so right. Enjoy life!

When you are 87 years old, forgetting your wifes name, and sitting in front of the window all day behind the flowers, and all of a sudden you buddies from back in the days walk in. You guys laugh together, and bring back old memories, laugh some more, and decide to have a beer to cheer and celebrate those good ol' memories from the past.
Those memories never include gymming, seriously :)

Those memories never include gymming, seriously :)

lol. That's hard to deny!

Barrel Aged Imperial Stout ... from draft ! There's just no saying no to that. Also I have also learned (read accepted) that me working out will never make me ripped. But it will allow me to enjoy the finer things in life without growing kingsize. And I do believe that's most important.

You are so right!

In shape-ish! I call myself the most in shape out of shape man in the world!
One of Canada's most famous beers is Molson. There we call a beer belly a Molson Muscle!

Very funny @exyle!

I call myself the most in shape out of shape man in the world!

LOL!

The alcohol in beer is also broken down in the body by the liver. Drinking beer and taking metformin might cause serious side effects. The alcohol in beer can interact with Flagyl. This can lead to upset stomach, vomiting, sweating, headache, and an increased heartbeat. And also you might get a heart attack :( So please quit drinking beers please :) It for your own good :) stay blessed @exyle

It's great that you decided to continue your journey, it's easy to get relaxed and lose your motivation. I hope you come from steemfest and hit the gym with a passion :)

Beer used to be pretty easy to pass on, but these days everyone seems to have great microbrews on tap. Only way to avoid drinking it is to stay home...no never mind great beer in the fridge too. Enjoy life, we only get to live it once!!

nice post my friend, well i can't appreciate you for drinking beer because my religious understanding is different, but i really like your workout routines and wow you are looking awesome in that shot, i think you are working out on your wings and chest, you are also taking a good decision to just increase your workout time so that you 100% prepare for the steemfest2, wish you a best of luck my friend for the upcoming steemfest2, Stay happy and blessed and have a fantastic weekend ahead.

Thanks man. And Yes, it's a chest/wings exercise. You have an amazing weekend too man!

Life is tough eh!

The system that worked for me was work my ass off in the week, and don't give a shit Friday night til 8pm Sunday!

Great job m8! Super results already. Goliath eat your heart out!

Wow I don't even have any RL friends that are in Steemit, great for you bro !

Can't always be about working out, you got to let loose and have fun from time to time and then you get back to working out! Enjoy it, don't get toooo drunk ;) haha.

Lol! Enjoy yourself!! Work out later 🤗 Balance is always good tho... but hard to do haha I've just ate a whole bag of candy at work :/

ugh, feel you!

I like that your 3 friends are on steemit, its getting hard to bring mine's here.

AGREED!

I'm very happy they all decided to join!

a wise man once said, Moderation is the key to a full life, enjoy and don't indulge.

Sir I agree with you really "Life is just too much fun"...............

You have to do a lot of exercise to oxygenate the brain and be able to continue working on the post hahaha. Greetings!

You are putting words to a problem I think about all the time - its hard to balance health and a social life!

For example, not drinking beer can be an annoying hurdle when your friends want to drink casually a few nights a week. It shouldnt matter but its always lame to be the one guy who doesn't grab a beer.

For me it's mostly the time-restricted eating window - I've been limiting my food to a 9 hour window each day, 5 days per week... but this SUCKS for a lot of stuff. If I am working at the coffeeshop and getting stuff done, I have to leave early to eat dinner before the 9 hours are up for the day...

IDK. I guess it's all a balance. Maybe it's better to be 80% healthy than 100%, so that we can enjoy the fun things of life too.

Maybe it's better to be 80% healthy than 100%, so that we can enjoy the fun things of life too.

I like this quote.

You have made some great improvements in fitness lately and I understand how hard it gets when u want to enjoy life and diet at the same time. I suggest that on the days u are going for few beers just eat smaller potions of food. Like instead of a whole burger, eat half. Instead of a sugary drink/soda take water. With the smaller potions coupled with intense gym work outs, you should be ok :)

I'm tied to a desk and then go home to a busy toddler...I'm sad to say that when it comes to a choice between beer and working out, the beer usually wins.

I feel your pain...keep at it and maybe I'll be inspired too!

I think you should drink beer until your belly grows. After that, you should hit the gym :)

Forgive me... achieving balance requires an adult understanding of moderation. Magical beer calories add up. Is the loss of awareness or the illusion of a good life worth it?
I am not judging! As a friend, I give you a gentle reminder to grasp your goal and consider moderate adult behavior.

The last time I went to the Fenix Food factory was 5 months ago. (I made a post about it). I think that's pretty moderate :).

Gotta be able to enjoy life. I'm in shape-ish too. I just dodge the full length mirror. Lol!

Liquid gold. Sounds magic and don't you just love those nights you can't remember how you got home!

lol. If you ever come to the Netherlands I'll show you the liquid gold place.

It's a deal!

Even if you will continue to drink the beer since you like it, make sure always gym, you will be fine. But it is still best to reduce the beer, because it brings fat.

damn for me that's really a struggle to have to choose between having a good time drinking beer with my buddies and staying fit. i guess this is where moderation comes into play. or better yet just think of it as your cheat day bro . hehe good luck on your quest to eradicate steemFAT from your system in time for steemfest3. heres to staying steemFIT bro! cheers! :)

I love drinking and doing parkour :P

I'll stick with beer :)

Cheers!

your making an issue out of nothing , just get a sports bottle , fill it with beer and take it to gym , or use your steem money and have implants so you can have muscles , and use lighter beer bottles

your making an issue out of nothing , just get a sports bottle , fill it with beer and take it to gym

LOL!

Beer never compensate adorable gaze of sexy woman on your abs. Never compinsate ability to handstand and run fast. STOOOOOP

Remember - Before you can do hard exercise, you must carbo-load, what better way, than by drinking beer!!! You right arm also builds muscle while lifting the glass to your mouth, for a better effect you will off cause need to drink bigger glasses of beer. (More reps and bigger weight)

Very good job
Thanks for nice blog

Inspiration!

the struggle is real for sure :) but that's worth it !!

Mental balance is quite important. So it is time for beer and pizza sometimes to keep you motivated. :-)

I could sacrifice beer. :D

How about learning to develop a new skill?
That is working on having more fun on nights without alcohol.

What alcohol does is that it makes us more relaxed and do more dumb shit that we're otherwise embarrased to do.

A year ago, I've started to go out ocasoinally while not drinking at all. What I figured out was that you can behave as wacky as everybody else does, and all the people except your friends wil think that you're drunk too. Once you find out that alcohol i not a most for having fun, just your friends remain the obstacle. This can be used to training yourself not to be influenced by others. This may be challenging and too strict, but guess who's gonna feel the best in the morning?
