Here you can see some pictures of chives, which is also known under the scientific name Allium schoenoprasum and probably comes from Asia where it found its way from China to Europe and was probably introduced by the navigator Marco Polo. Chives have the advantage that it can be used in a variety of ways and it is ideal as a herb in the kitchen and can be very well integrated into the daily menu because of the numerous contained ingredients and is considered extremely easy to care for when it comes to cultivation. One factor why it can be worthwhile to grow is that it is becoming increasingly rare in some places and you can thus support biodiversity and also for different types of insects it offers an important source of food and the flowering period already begins in May and extends over a few months. The violet or red flowers with their scent particularly often attract some species of bees, bumblebees or hoverflies and some species of wild bees that are becoming increasingly rarer in some places, it offers an important alternative. On average, every tenth wild bee is threatened with extinction and some species have even focused specifically on chives and the value of nectar is particularly high and if you play with the idea of cultivating it for the own consumption, it can be worthwhile to leave some parts for insects. On the leaves you can sometimes also see small creatures such as caterpillars that feed themselves or find their shelter here and also the reproduction is uncomplicated and it spreads by itself over the seeds and it can also be good against mosquitoes because of the oils it contains and in addition it is also avoided by snails and can be classified as very robust and is absolutely recommended for anyone who is looking for something that is valuable from an ecological point of view and also easy to maintain.
