OnlyFans Changed its Mind About Banning Pornographic Material and Why They Need to Join HIVE

in #news3 years ago

Many of my friends have been developing content for OnlyFans for years. Yes, many are in the adult industry - some are artists who have sought a safe place to share their more explicit pieces, while others are sex workers, adult-themed cosplayers, and "cam girls".

In the age of "The Great Pause," as I refer to the Covid shut-downs and restrictions, especially in the comics & cosplay industry, people have pivoted to find viable sources of income since the Comic Cons and other in-personal network and selling opportunities have been shuttered.

When OnlyFans made the announcement that they would ban pornographic material from their site, supporters and content creators raised hell because the site was basically built off their backs - err... content.

Faced with political and regulatory scrutiny over the site's ability to remove illegal and exploitative material, with allegations that there may be underage material present, OnlyFans made an announcement that they would change their policies.

And just like Patreon, Tumblr, Facebook, and Instagram, OnlyFans decided to switch to a more "mainstream model" to exclude pornography despite having brought thousands, if not millions of new people to their platforms, and billions of dollars because of adult content.

In fact, OnlyFans says it has 130 million users and 2 million creators who have collectively earned $5 billion. cite

Walking back their decision

OnlyFans' decision to reverse their decision still has many content creators on edge. WHY? Because their initial reason for the ban was, in part, due to "requests from banking partners and companies that handle financial transactions."

So, what changed?

Synonymous But Not Exclusively Porn

When people think of OnlyFans, they often think it is another pornography site however, there is plenty of other content over there. Like it's name, content creators use that platform to develop content ONLY for their FANS/supporters.

In a time when mainstream accounts are being taken down or throttled back, blockchain options like HIVE are a viable and smart option. Here's to bringing more people on board to a censorship-resistant platform.

Cheers!

It's great to be back, and my hope is to bring more people to the platform. Please give me a follow @merej99. My other links can be found on Linktree
