A Year of Potential

I might just as well call it the post-365-syndrome. Tonight is the first night after the 365th post I made in a row. And I almost wanted to post something just to carry on out of habit. Many nights I woke up at three in the morning, going into a panic mode asking my partner Did I post tonight?. Now, there is nothing like this need to post, merely the open pages of potential that stretch in front of me.

And this is what I want to focus on this year.

Potential

The plans for this year are rather simple.

  1. I want to finish my PhD around the end of July.

  2. I need to write about 3 articles based on my PhD.

  3. I want to focus on my art, as this is something I did not manage to spend as much time on as would have liked to.

  4. I want to focus on onboarding friends who have similar interests to what we have.

  5. I want to travel through my country, drinking beer at strange places where I would not have usually gone (thanks to my partner's adventurous soul).

  6. I want to read more fiction and non-fiction that go beyond the philosophy reading I do for my PhD, a passion that helped me become the very philosopher who I am which I neglected in the last couple of years.

These are small goals that I set for myself, ones that I will easily meet if I really put my heart into them. Many people set New Year's resolutions which they never reach because they always set massive goals.

Last year, my single goal was to make the 365-year challenge.

This year, my single goal is to make these 5 goals, which are kind of interlinked. It is not that massive, but achieving it itself becomes a massive goal. Every step in the right direction is better than not doing it.

Life is full of potential, and we are the creators of our own happiness (in some sense).

Writing our own happiness becomes an important goal, one that we constantly write and one that we constantly "become". Becoming in this new year is so important, as it is linked to potential, of "becoming", or being more than just being.

Becoming is always about being more...

For now, enjoy the new year, become more, be more.

All of the writings in this post are my own, albeit inspired by my passion to become more, potential. All of the photographs are my own, taken with my Nikon D300.
