What is The Cold Fire Mean ?

Hallo Dear Steemian, , ,

Hopefully everyone still health to read steemit post base on STEM Content, Tonight i would like to share you something about the fire that called as Cool Flame.

Everyone known that the fire is orange, hot (flammable) and can burns a medium (object), Have you ever heard about the cool flame ? Generally, the people known to that the fire is hot (combustion). All right, well, in this post i will explain what is  cool flame mean.

The cool flame was first discovered by Humphry Davy in 1810 by accidentally, this phenomenon occurs when he has been conducting an experiment, In the experiment, Humphry discovered that the fire didn't burn both hands and matches, but this could turn into a ordinary fire with a certain temperature and composition. Then, in 1929 Harry Julius called it with a cold fire.

Why it called as Cool Flame ?

Maybe, some people will ask if the cool flame is blue as we seen on a stove? Because the ordinary fire is orange and hot (flammable). Then, Why it called as Cool Flame ? Because, the maximum fire temperature is around 400oC (752oF) Because, the maximum temperature of this fire ranges 400oC where the usual fire temperature reaches 1000oC and the cool flame only detected in a dark room. it doesn't mean the cold fire doesn't heat out but the cool flame temperature is lower than ordinary fire that reaches temperature about of 1000oC. The burning process of cool flame depends on the fuel used such as hydrocarbon, alcohol, formaldehyde, and others. Usually ,a combustion of a cool flame with formaldehyde produce bluish fire although the fuel occurs at low temperature oxidation.

CH3O• + CHnO• → CH2O* + CHnOH

The visible flame is a period of glowing substances produced in a rapid oxidation process by releasing the energy.

Generally, a combustion occur due to exist of fuel, oxygen (burner), heat (source of flame) and free radical reactions that take place in chains. According to Da Silva, the initial state of the fuel does not affect the oxidation process but it is influenced by hydrocarbons and oxygen balance. The oxidation reaction can be  formulated as follow.

 R• + O2 ↔ RO*2

If the oxygen stability is low when the reaction occur and the temperature is higher, the balance of the reaction will shift towards the reactant. The cold flame combustion process is different from ordinary combustion, where the reactant molecule does not split into smaller parts so that the heat generated is not much and a bit flame, although carbon dioxide is constantly formed.

A Story of Abraham

The majority of the people have known about a history of Abraham, where a King (Nimrod) who exercises power with an iron fist, a king who wants his wish to be executed and feels worthy of his people's worship. Then, in the midst of the society was born a baby from a merchant. As the story goes, Abraham had a thrill with the King and the magistrate of the kingdom decided Abraham to be burned, Then Abraham was get down into a flame. When the fire was extinguished, the audience was astonished to see Abraham still intact and does not blaze.

Some people involve the science occurred in this event of combustion, so Abraham is not burned because the fire that burns Abraham is kind of cool flame. As happened in Humphry Davy's experiment.

After noticing that certain types of flame did not burn his fingers or ignite a match, he also found that those unusual flames could change into conventional ones and that at certain compositions and temperatures, they did not require an external ignition source, such as a spark or hot material

The cold flame also takes a long time in a combustion rather than a ordinary fire. From a source claimed that the experts have experimented cool flame on the ISS (International Space Station), from that experiment they think the fire is a mysterious and different creature when it ignited in small gravity, the combustion occurs at low temperatures and does not produce carbon dioxide (CO2) but emits the carbon monoxide (CO). Therefore, some people argue that the fire had burned Abraham was a cold fire (cool flame) and at that time Abraham was burned in a small gravity area.

Conclusion

It called as cool flame because the combustion temperature occurs below the ordinary fire temperature of about 400oC whereas ordinary fire usually reaches 1000oC and the combustion process depends on the fuel used, the certain compositions and temperatures can also make a cool flame become as ordinary fire.

This is just so... cool. Yeah this was an easy one. I didn't know the Abraham story. Miracles are always stuff for which the scientific explanation has not been found yet :D

Of course prof, sometime it difficult to explain

Great post. This reminds me of my chemistry class that I just took two months ago. We were also discussing the different flames that were present in our experience. We were using the Bunsen burner in the Bunsen burner we were told to keep our test tubes in the hottest flame. Therefore we had to break down the different flames of fire as well.

are you a chemistry student ? But you look like a bitcoiner, :)
Every chemistry student have used Bunsen Burner when they do some excercise

Wow. that micro gravity thing is very cool.
