Grab a beer….. you won’t believe this true story

Afternoon everyone….

As the title states, you might want to grab a beer or an adult beverage for this one. Because when my girlfriend told me about this I couldn’t believe it…..

No she is not pregnant ….

My girlfriend hates having stuff laying around that will not or cannot be used anymore. She frequently puts things up on the Facebook Marketplace to get rid of things.

Often she just gives things away. But things that she feels are in like new condition she tries to get a few bucks for.

My girlfriend has a thirteen year old son. He is very tall nearly as tall as me already. Obviously kids grow out of things very quickly, which means that many things don’t get much use before they are outgrown.

She listed a pair of bowling shoes that he used last summer for a summer bowling camp. Yes, he refused to wear rental bowling shoes. I don’t blame him. She listed them for $7 on Facebook Marketplace.

Are you ready…..

When the lady interested came to pick them up. She handed my girlfriend four paper dollars and a bunch of quarters. My girlfriend noticed the strange sound on the change hitting her hand.

She immediately text me a picture with a question. Are these quarters silver? Once I opened the picture without seeing the dates, I said yep.

They weren’t all silver but nine of the twelve were silver. The other three were bicentennial quarters which are worthless, unless in amazing condition.

Here is the picture she sent me…

Each of these quarters are worth five dollars in melt value. So the lady technically spent $49.75 on previously owned bowling shoes. Which is $20 more than my girlfriend paid for them brand new.

You just don’t see this type of stuff happening anymore.

My honest guess is that someone in the house the lady who bought them lives in, probably has a jar of quarters that are silver and bicentennials on a dresser or somewhere. She didn’t want to go to the ATM and just grabbed three dollars in quarters not knowing what they really were. 🤦🏻

Not only are they silver but three of them are in mint state condition for certain. Not crazy high grades but my guess would be MS62 or MS63. Which would make them worth about $17-$22 each. But I’m not grading them.

They are now added to my stack. She gave them to me.

You just can’t make this shit up….

People are totally oblivious….

Sort:

She gave them to me.

I think this is the most unbelievable part😂😂😂😂

Such a stroke of luck.

That's so cool. As soon as you mentioned quarters I had a feeling I knew where this was going. I'm guessing it's the two 64's and the one 63 that are in near mint condition? What a great addition to your stack!

That's pretty crazy, but somehow not surprising. Many people seem totally unaware that silver was once used in our coins. That reminds me of a reddit post in the silver community I read last week where the guy was showing off some mercury dimes that he claimed he had been paid in.

Crazy world we live in.

That is sweet! She must not know the sound of silver or she would have realized when she grabbed them. Nice score!

The lady obviously had no idea about this, it could be what you say, she took the coins without worrying about their value, well they are already yours, so your girlfriend's investment was more than excellent

Hahaha, your girlfriend luck out!!! She will probably start stacking now, hehehe!

Wait, she gave them to you? Well... okay 😁.
!BBH

She has some silver. I gift her something silver every holiday a present is given, plus her birthday. Plus she won the Yahtzee game last year and scooped up the nine ounces from that as well.

That is sweet!

That is unbelievable! What a story!!!! Is it April fools?? How in the world!!!!

Until she sent me the pictures I didn’t think anything of it. Guess there are still naive people out there.

Knowledge is Power 💪😎

Awesome deal D 🤩🤩🤩

That's a great story! I appreciate you telling it! Makes me wonder how many people have old change jars from the 50's and 60's full of silver coins. I remember in 2008 with the economic scare, a lot of old change went into circulation. I would find a surprising amount of nickels and dimes and pennies from the 40's and 50's and early 60's in my change. People are a lot quicker to pull these from circulation these days.

My aunt told me a similar story, she was a cashier at an auto shop and she opened a roll of quarters from the bank and she noticed they looked "white" and sounded different. They sat in the cash drawer for a few weeks until most were distributed to customers as change. She said they were 'shiny" and all the same date 1964. By the time she was told what they were, there were only a few left. She "bought" them for a quarter, but most had already been distributed into circulation.

That’s a good story as well. There’s tons of it out there just sitting in jars or banks or drawers. It comes out every now and then.
