Commenting Without Voting : How Bad Has The Hard Fork Affected Your Voting?

See My Comment but No Vote

I felt compelled to ask this question because I have seen some unusual things on my blog of recent. I see a lot of people who visit my blog, want their presence noticed by dropping a comment but leaves without voting.

I do not know if hard fork can be blamed for this but I do know that this was nearly not happening before the hard fork or I never really noticed it.

Is It Wrong To Comment Without Voting?

Well, I cannot say if it is right or wrong but I certainly feel that it does not appear ideal to visit a blog, feel it is important to the point of dropping a positive comment and then leave without dropping a vote.

I feel that if the blog post was good to the point of deserving your comment, it should have at least a penniless vote from you.

I want to get responses from people via the comment box please. Let us discuss this by dropping your thought.

I agree, if the post was interesting enough to make you want to comment, it is fair to upvote the post.
If you dont have the vote slider thing yet, your upvote wont make a huge reward difference but in terms of morale of the creator it is worth it.
If you have enough Steempower to have the vote slider, then even just a 1% upvote would be fair, if you are leaving comments.

Another thing, if you are responding to a comment, why not upvote that comment. I see the trend of no votes happening a lot in comment trees too.

Not upvoting doesn't really help anyone, including comment makers.

This captures my thought completely. I am standing with you 100% on this including my vote. Lol.

I agree with you as long as you the reader agree with the content and the opinions the author made on his.
However if you disagree with the post and want to leave your opinion on why you think he is wrong to start a disussion, then naturally you wouldn,t want to upvote that post.

Nice point. I definitely agree with you on that. It is the prerogative of the reader to know if he would vote an author he does not agree with. He can vote such author as a way of encouragement and he can also decide not to vote at him.

It does dent the morale of the writer to see the effort he has put into preparing the post. A vote is a sign of recognition no matter how small the rewards. To see the votes shows the progress that the writer is making in attracting traffic to his work (excluding those who vote using bots).

You are right. Everything is not all about money. For some of us who have blogging experience outside here, when you check that your traffic and you see it rising, even if it is not bringing money yet, you are encouraged that people are seeing your content.

In my opinion, it doesn't hurt to stick a 1-5% vote on something you are 'inspired' enough to comment on.

We stand on the same page on this brother. This is my opinion too. If it makes sense enough for me to bother commenting, it should be good that I vote with at least 1%.

I like the thought process you shared.

It makes sense that we drop a vote as a way of encouragement even if it has no weight.

I agree completely!

I did notice this trend as well right after the Fork. Unfortunately it looks like Greed is starting to take over the Steemit community, most of the newbies are using they newly upgraded voting power to upVote their own comments instead of rewarding/encouraging creators. It is sad!

I think you are right there. I believe I started noticing this more after the hard fork.

Writing a comment to a post doesn't always mean you like or agree with what is being said in the post. I myself am not commenting just when a "blog post was good to the point of deserving your comment".

Also, everybody has a voting slider, regardless of their Steem Power, if they vote using chainBB.

I comment not to get noticed, but to acknowledge great content and to add insight and my personal views and thoughts. Sometimes I will correct errors or misstatements.

As for the hardfork, it's totally trashed my voting power, so it's pointless for me to upvote. You only get 0.01c, and my voting power doesn't recover @richguy.😢

I am sorry to here the HF19 was not friendly to you. I think that HF19 was great and beneficial however, it came with its own challenges.

I some times comment cause ilike the post but have no power left, like right now i think i am at 50% if i have 500 sp all post i like would get some type vote from me

An upvote is an upvote, even if it has no money that is what the majority is saying. If you cannot afford one, it may be wise not to comment.

But when i am trying to get back to 80% plus power i don't vote some times, I think the amount SP to get the slider should be lowered now that we don't get 40 votes.

By you saying if you can't vote don't comment sounds like some censorship right there saying that your comment don't mean anything if you don't vote.

If i can't vote i will always resteem to help but some times voting is not possible for people with less then 500 SP

You can use eSteem app for android and ios by @good-karma. It gives everyone the ability to use voting slider.

I still drop my upvotes as I did before, but maybe it is because I don't mind running out of power, I don't post that much, don't have that much power, etc. But I haven' t run out of power yet. I do see a lot of people upvoting their own COMMENTS, though, and that seems bizarre for me, because then they obviously are not gonna upvote anybody else, because you can comment endlessly...

Great to know you upvote others with your little vote. That is how it should be.

I had to drop you an upvote after that nice post... 😀

Hahaha....where have you been? You have been scarce.

I totally agree, if a post is worth a comment then it is definitely worth an upvote. I have seen it over or twice though, where someone does a comment and doesn't upvote. Bad turn I say.

I could not have said it any better.

Because you hit the nail on the head, I Upvoted and resteemed.
I pretty much upvote everything that grabs my attention, holds my interest, and if I like it I resteem it.
This has all three. Good point great post.

Personally, there is so much awesome stuff out there I like to comment on but can't vote on it all - then I'd be sitting at like 0% constantly 😬
Not like that's too much of an issue for me because I'm still new here and my vote is t worth much...
What do you think of receiving a vote from a minnow when it's worth very little?

An upvote is still showing support, no matter how small. To many creators the upvote is very encouraging no matter how small, it also can help with community integration too.

True point. Think I'm gonna upvoted even if my upvote isn't worth much. It's the thought that counts 😁😁

I can see because you don't have a voting slider yet obviously.

When do we get one? I read somewhere at about 500SP?

yes around there

Cool!!! Hopefully soon 😁😁

Same Issues

This post CNN Raided in Moscow is a good example:
with 112 Views, 30 comments, 19 votes.

Achieving 30 % of comments is a good ratio. Votes should be also approx. 30%.

I, too, run out of voting power and in absence of a slider use eSteem to cast votes using the eSteem vote slider. See this brief eSteem review, which explains.

Great one there. Minnows without vote slider will do better with eSteem app because it comes with that for all level of blogger.

I up vote and comment a lot ! I find people are more likely to up vote and not comment ! Than comment and not up vote ! 👍👍👍

Lol, that is you. I have seen a trend where some people comment without dropping even the most affordable vote.

haha ! I think I used up all my power again today LOL! And I just got built back up to 100% ! Now I have to take it easy for a couple days again ! 👍👍👍

what is more upsetting, is giving a small vote weight for the post, but voting with lots of vote weight for his own comment?

it just like rob in our own safety box. LOL

Hahahahahahahaha. Another side of the coin...

it is. 😂😂

Also very new, and this post opened my eyes about voting, and it is a bit disheartening:

https://steemit.com/steemit/@uwelang/a-vote-is-not-a-like-steemit-explained-for-noobs#

It seems for a lot of power steemers voting isn't about liking a post.

Well Said. 😎 upvote given 👍

There are to main forces in human life:

1st - Greed
2nd - Envy

In my view... - Nothing Real New!

What I've mentioned that far in steemit is, that there are much more people complaining than helping or creating or understanding... -

"What's a social community build on!?"

I really can't remember anymore!

I totally agree with you

I will usually upvote, comment and resteem. There was a time last weekend when my vote power went down to 0. I still commented on things that I felt were interesting. I understand the vote power thing is to prevent abuse but it also suppresses real interaction too. At my level it is on .01 but it is something.

It is not necessarily about the money attached to it. Yes the money is important but an upvote means that you enjoyed the post and want to commend the publisher.

When I read a post and I appreciate the content, I give always my vote. I don't vote and comment only, if I totally disagree with the content.

This post has been ranked within the top 50 most undervalued posts in the first half of Jul 08. We estimate that this post is undervalued by $23.38 as compared to a scenario in which every voter had an equal say.

I'm new here, but it seems obvious that it follows an order.. . . .
View post, Agree, Positive Comment, Upvote, Resteem... Up Voted. . .
View post, Agree, Positive Comment, Upvote... (Maybe no resteem) ... Up Voted
View post, Agree with No Comment, Upvote, (no resteem) . . . Up Voted
OR
View post, Agree with No Comment, no upvote, no resteem. . . .
OR Even
View post and not much interest gets no vote . . . 0 vote
View post and Disagree, gets no vote . . . . 0 vote
View post and Disagree with Negative comment, no vote . . . 0 vote

BUT... basically if there is a Positive Comment, there should be an Up Vote.
