Does Steemit have any healthy competitor yet?

In the last few months lots of platforms have emerged, with the same concept that Steemit brought to the blockchain 3 years back.

Sincerely I expect Steemit to already have some healthy competition. As of now, more flexible and user friendly platforms enabling social media users without prior knowledge of the blockchain earn from their ability to socialize, but from the look of things, the majority of the on-boarding platforms seem to be no more than clones of Steemit.

I read about akasha.world some months back; a decentralized social network built on the blockchain; but guess which chain??

The Ethereum blockchain of Vitalik Buterin. The founder of ETH is an advisor of Akasha, and it rewards in Ethereum. The given votes are run with micro transactions on the ETH blockchain, mining with your mind. Not to be overly critical, but we all know the Ethereum network is congested.

Akasha is still in beta testing; lets see what they have to offer: beta.akasha.world - you can check it out and tell me what you think.

I also discovered another platform on the NEO blockchain, narrative.network; this is also a decentralized reward based platform, but here you get rewarded in either crypto or traditional currencies.

And I assume we are all aware of the first blogging dapp on EOS blockchain, the ONO dapp.

The likes of weku.io, u.network, Golos, Whaleshares, Scorum?

What do you think??

How far do think they can run, and how well is Steemit doing in your opinion?!

Cheers!

In this post.

I look forward to part-2-where-does-the-money-come-from
Awesome Surfyogi graphic with cannabis leaves.
You can get paid to post it and your book(chapter by chapter) onto SMOKE network and get paid like on Steemit.
https://smoke.network/
Uses the STEEM blockchain, thought you would want to know.
Peace bro.

I forgot to mention smoke.io, that's true.
And I am a believer, just have not made time to post my book yet! ;-)

FYI
I have updated this first chapter to include new details of LED lighting. My original book was from the days of Metal Halide lamps; we now have hi-tech LED lamps that take less than half the power ;-)

I'll soon launch a book in Curing Cancer with Marijuana, so if anyone has any tips on making Hash Oil, or how to administer to cancer patients, I'd love to hear from you!

Thanks for sharing this post sir... sir please my blog follow me

Wow so many replies already. Am sure someone has already stated my point but I am not too wprried about competition to steemit because the platform keeps evolving and trying to improve everyday.

If you are including dtube also .. Steem is looking good and leading the pack .. Add on the ideas being floated in the steem comunity like adding a wikapedia type thing to it ..it has endless posibility

I think steemit still has advantage for being the first with the fact that so many people have already grown a reputation they will not like to abandon.

sm1 like me do no like muti-tasking too much...so not everyone will want to move to give other sites a try.

i think steemit should make use of the advantage it has now to stay in the front page.

The other competitors onboard are not strong enough. Most bounty programs dont even recognise them

So many Steem carbon copy platforms existing but I feel it's similar to the case of bitcoin, no other Crypto has been able to surpass bitcoin thus none of these platforms will surpass Steem!

Steemit is great due to its high rules and policies.
I think no one is looking to compete steemit.

They are, more than you can ever imange..

Ono isn't a dapp on EOS but its own EOSIO blockchain and all of the dapps will integrate into the Ono social media platform.

Steem has a mighty lead as you suggest and a little healthy competition never hurt anyone.

@surfyogi, No matter what it is, we have to be happy that Steemit have set standards for other platforms and they want to give the tough challenge but we have to understand one aspect and that is no matter how much that platform is look alike something will going to stand as different.

Steem Economy hold the SMT Concept which makes this platform more unique and more futuristic. And Steem Economy is expanded globally with practical and strong communities for sure which will going to prove an strong point in future.

But, in my opinion cloning aspect is really unfortunate because, we should come up with unique essence and that is really important to develop the Decentralised Economy because we need to see the growth of Decentralised Economy because in that way we can see that people will going to have the Financial Control.

Wishing you an great day and stay blessed. 🙂

I think competition is a good thing for end users and motivates innovation. I have signed up on scorum, however didn’t get a chance to use it yet. Those who are using are speaking highly of it.

Steemit is still the very best, it will still take a while for the likes of scorum to surpass steemit, however if it comes to competition steemit indeed has, but still stays best.
However steemit Inc should watch it, these other platforms are working very hard too.

You would think there would be viable alternatives by now. Steem has a great community that others may lack. I just hope the developers can keep the momentum going and get lots more people on board. We know it works and I want others to get the benefit.

@Surfyogi Truth be told am not interested in any of those fake copycats. From Whaleshares to Weku all I see are cheap imitations. Let us stay here and build this platform into what we envision

Just happy to know we don’t yet have a good competition. That’s something to be excited about.

Resteemed sir. Steemit has competitors but as to wether healthy or stronger these ones really are is something yet to be achieved. The pace is already set for a healthy comepetion. But they really are doing so much well. But in all, l think the strenght of steemit relies in these competitors it has. Thats a powerful arguable submission you have given @surfyogi. Thanks always Jeff.

Well since I get to know about steemit, it's has been promising. It's been doing okay even after the hardfork20 because it has helped to reduce abuse, though the hardfork20 isn't something nice for some.
But everything that has advantages also has disadvantages.
EOS, ONO and Scorum, are the most important, that I have full hope and believe in.
Just with time to come it's gonna worth it.

I bealive only in steemit now, others coins are boring for me))

I have always felt this way until eos and competitors to st en started to emerge.

Does steemit have competitors? Give some examples please.

Steemit is still mother of then all the other are just doing catch up

Steemit will still stand and stand up stronger. Even though other platforms are really striving to beat Steemit, they can only try.

Other competitors are not strong enough. But Steemit shouldn't be keen with the worries of competition. The competition though should be healthy. We rule here!!!

So far so good... Steemit is still number one since most of these other clones don't have coins worth more than steem.

However, they are a big threat to the steemit platform in the nearest future because they have been able to study their parent (steemit) and have succeeded in eliminating the flaws in steemit.

But then, TIME WILL TELL!

That’s interesting... steemit can fix its flaws also during a fork. It continues to improve but I think the most important thing is steemit had a head start and already a good size community.

Please, the platform is called Steem. Be punctual about it. It is important.

Akasha on Ethereum is a no-go in my opinion too.

Narrative? I've registered yet I don't find it interesting enough to start using it.

Scorum will be strong in the future. It's a great approach on how to build a successful niche site.

STEEM is the currency, Steem is the blockchain and dev community yes, but Steemit inc controls the path forward. So I call as I see this...

I see your point. I simply wanted to say that Steem is much more than Steemit Inc. If Steemit quits the business, Steem will survive.

Which is not the case for many other platforms.

I believe Weku is the best of the competitors. It's plan is to be a site that has audio and video completely built in, with a fully functioning search mechanism.

I think competition is a good thing but Weku is the only site I've seen so far that actually feels like real competition.

Of course these facts would call into question immediately ( like Dlive) how decentralized is Weku ?

I can't say for sure, but I can tell you it is one of the easiest sites to get started with. I made an account and was online there within a few minutes and I'm already rated 56. Quite a few people from this site are also over there. I have no idea what the token will be worth when it finally comes out, but earning is quite simple there.

It’s an important question because it will affect trust long term. If 56 reputation is easy to achieve for example what do s it mean to others?

The same reason why it feels difficult for me to use WEKU, if it were that easy, would it really be worth anything?

I'd say it's probably not easy for everyone but I do have a bit of experience from blogging on Steemit.

Perhaps it feels like a real competition because from what I heard it looks exactly like Steemit? I haven't been on it, and don't intend as have no interest on going in a platform that jusy copies the UI from someone else. If that's the mentality of the developers, then how do they view plagarism on the platform?

The likes of weku actually got me laughing... Alot of descendant counterparts. I'm just putting my eggs in all available baskets. Hopefully.. 😂

I think whaleshares is the only platform that can compete with steemit at the moment. Steem still has a bright future though. You only need to restructure and unstructure the system.

I don't agree with this because Scorum is there too, like wise EOS dapp ONO..
they have bright future too.

I agree Scorum looks great for sports which is huge, ono should capture Asia...

Africa, which is Nigeria is leading with the most populated on ONO..

In terms of any of the blogging sites I've seen we are pretty far ahead. While our community may be a bit smaller than it used to be, we have traction in that area.

In terms of attracting new dapps to our blockchain, adding SMTs, etc. EOS's blockchain already allows for development of dapps with their own tokens.
I have not checked out Ono, due to cell phone app, and I like my computer.

Yeah we are pretty far ahead.
But ONO and Scorum is doing quite okay even when they are still starting..

This issue have been bothering me for awhile now, am glad am renown Steemian could bring this up. I also learnt some new list from here.

Seriously, Steemit is still the best out there, but as this many other sites are coming up everyday, they'll start to take a bit out of Steemit users and user database, trust me, it won't be funny as times goes on, if possibly a great improvement come to those sites, theN The steemit ecosystem behind to shake.

But so far, Steemit is still the best till date to ever come to the blockchain.

People have often wondered what will happen to STEEM in the future when EOS is released. the answer I got was that it was likely for STEEM to be ported to EOS in the future, but nobody knew for sure. It's hard to discover what the STEEM devs are doing, or thinking about doing, so indeed nobody really knows. I always felt it was far from a sure thing that STEEM or Steemit would be ported to EOS.

At one time I assumed this might be true as well, then SMT was announced and I could see @ned has other ideas. Which of course, is very exciting, then we started to talk in the Telegram SMT group about what SMT could do, the use cases, and why SMT is a good idea.
I guess we wait an see..

Well recently weku too came it copied literally everything from steemit from interface to concept but steemit is unique the community is nowhere else like here :)

Even though I was not active on steemit in past 2 months because of “personal” changes in my life, new offline projects and helping to build ONO.....

Steemit will always be my real HOME! The community and loyal members such as you @blazing ( miss u ) are dear to my heart and this will never change.

Wow so nice to hear from you dear @mammasitta means a lot and wishing you all the success in the projects you are involved in huge success is on the way :) keep smiling and inspiring missed your posts during this time but everything has a reason so will be waiting for your comeback soon :D

I really love to see your comments on my blog, I'm glad to see you here and it means so much to me to have EU members reading it.

Maybe @surfyogi, we can look to Steemit and the Steem blockchain itself to get hints of why there are no viable competitors out there.

The decentralized model is beautiful and a counterpoint to things like Facebook, but as a business model, the whole operating by committee consensus moves at a snail's pace, compared to the standard centralized model where someone just "gives orders" and paid zombies execute those orders with the encouragement of "on time bonuses."

Just take something like Weku. It took them two years to assemble a team and basically make a carbon copy of Steemit from around January 2017, with the intent of steering it in a different direction.

Over a year ago we were promised communities here "soon," and we'll be lucky to see that by spring of 2019.

Seems to me Steemit is doing fine within the niche it occupies, and for anyone to come in and be a serious competitor, they are already going to be a couple of years behind where we are now. And by the time they get to where we are NOW? We'll be two years further along...

The oldest competitor in this space — minds.com — remains unimpressive, and their token still isn't traded anywhere in public.

Bright Blessings!

EOS to build a Competitor to Steemit - Will STEEM survive EOS? (long) 🤔
This was a question about 8 month ago. And now steemit is only and number one.

This still remains to be seen, and I'm not too worried about EOS as a direct competitor so far... what so ever.
Looks to me like EOS can capture a huge share of smart contracts dapp market, which is still a year or 2 away?

Akasha based on Ethereum. But i know that steemit will remain on top. Before some month ago EOS try to launch the as conpetitor . But now its never find

Akasha has been around for a while, since the times I first discovered Steem, about 18 months ago.
I never saw it as a serious competitor, since i started watching @dan videos about ETH vs STEEM...

STEEM will always have first mover advantage like Bitcoin.

You may not agree with me. But I’m predicting some black Swann event in Blockchain space. More and more projects will merge. And EOS and STEEM will merge.

What I really mean is that Some DApps get the community from Steem and release SMT with Steem then they’ll run on EOS Blockchain

So far, I don't think I've come across any social decentralized network to be compared with steemit. It's either there's no withdrawal button or it's not tradeable at the moment. Steemit has been the best so far and can still improve better

Healthy competitors are good for businesses
Steemit wasa competitor to Facebook, Instagram, etc.
Dtube came as a Competitor to Youtube
The truth is that with the emerging blockchain backed social media sprouting, Steemit need to up her game to stay top.
I still prefer Steemit though

Steemit is being imitated but it's coins is still of higher value. I think steemit will continue to lead other platforms in the nearest future as a result of the Hardfork20. I recommend whaleshares too.

I am very happy that we are getting new platforms. Steemit is the best one in my knowledge. Thank you for providing with the info. It was much awaited I am going to check it out.

Can you please that we can use akasha is it officially out??

I am agree with @desmoniac that time will tell

I still don't really like the ideas of these competitors especially likes of Weku and Whaleshares that are almost like steemit in terms of it's operation.

I feel it's just getting too much when it's still exactly the same thing we do on steemit that we do there,it would have been a different thing if the platforms had it's own differences, not using the same terms .

Compitiion is good.
Like it's important but mostly when it's a healthy compitiion. It gives room for improvement and betterment because you know you ain't the only one on the space..

Does this still mean that money is generated out of no where? May be the answer to Where Does the Money Come From? will be in part 2 or did I miss that in the post?

Cool reply, thanks!
You are right, I need to do a part 2 on "Where does the Money Come From?"

Thats a good news to provide in this platform i appreciate your help post this time any crypto just growing up so I am happy now that steem day by day grow up..

Thanks a lot for sharing update I will wait for your next post..
Keep it up and carry on your activities

In my honest opinion, SCORUM is good but it's limited as it deals in sport-related articles alone, but if we consider weku.io it seems as Steemit major competitor

I see great things for Scorum ahead.
It's still new but they're already sorting out some of the problems of steemit.
Still has a long way to go to be compared to steemit though

@rjunaid12 scorum is doing okay as a starter for now..
Over there things ain't much abused.
There reward pool is something that needs to be worked on, although I like it that we only have scorum power in the reward pool for now because it has been helping us to accumulate SP, which is most important in all platforms.

A big thanks to you for bringing these to light. Since the HF20 and its restrictions, i have been looking if there are other platforms like steemit. This post has made my search easier. Once again, thank you for the good work.

I believe the sky is big enough to accommodate different bird. Moreso, a healthy competition is welcomed. But no matter how, I think non of this new platforms can be like steemit, steemit is the first and still the best

Very exciting new news from you, sir.🙏

Sir I don't know about steem paste and future bat a am daily user just like adcted this open sorseec I think sheem have a bright future. I found good and valuable post on this beautiful platform.

We are Steemit forever! Thanks for the info sir.

Excellent work friend greetings although the community does not pass its best moment in the market it is good that you continue supporting us success in your projects
