The princess has really helped Jean, she saved him and brought him back to life the three times he was eaten. But it's possible that the castle and its inhabitants under siege by those three devils, would have been waiting for someone like Jean to set them free.
And now that he had suffered for the three times predicated, I hope he would be able to set the people free and marry the princess.
Then it would be a happy ending.
