Switching Worlds | First Night Walking Around The Vegas Strip

Looking to find some other place to go I headed out onto the Vegas strip. Even during what could be considered the off-season this place was packed. I don’t care for large groups of people and any time I had to walk somewhere in Vegas was not that enjoyable. At the very least the signs were amazing.

The strip was packed with lots of people walking along the sidewalks and cars going along the street. While there were many bridges to get you across from one area to another. There were still quite a few street crossings. Where the lines of people would not stop any time even long after any lights turned red. This caused many angry taxi drivers to honk horns and even attempt to press their luck in going for it anyway.

On my first night out, I was not planning to go that far. I’d prefer to travel during the daylight. Anytime it was getting dark was usually my sign that it was time to get back to my hotel. That, however, did not mean I did not have a few late nights away from the hotel I was staying at.

I just did not prefer how wild and crazy the nights on the Vegas Strip could get. It was bad enough that endless people were sticking their hands in your face trying to sell you something or telling you something about some religion.

While some might come to Vegas for this kind of partying. I found it rather amusing that it was for sale one of the many stories I visited. I, however, had no desire for that kind of night. I don’t even want to know how many mudslides that thing could even hold in the first place!

I would very rarely see someone walking the strip with something similar. There was some shop around that sold drinks that were massive. I have a feeling I’d find myself in a bad part of a street somewhere long before reaching the bottle of any drink that large.

Some of these casinos looked like they went on forever. Many of them were even connected to any owned neighboring properties. Once you enter one of them you could find yourself going down some long hallways and being in an entirely different casino than when you started.

Since the Superbowl was coming up shortly after my first. It seemed like they were installing some crowd control devices along the road and in certain areas. They would be like round balls on the ground or to keep someone from sitting somewhere. For all I know they had been there for a while. I, however, noticed in one area they were doing construction that it seemed to be something similar to what they were installing.

Many shops looked fun to look in. I, however, would be long dead from obesity if I stopped everywhere that caught my eye. I have no clue what was up with these ducks at a donut shop.

Vegas is a bit of a strange place in that they have working escalators outdoors. They all lead up into these crosswalks that take you over the main road of the strip. If there were not that many along them, it was quite fun to stand for a while at and look around. They were also often filled with peddlers and performers looking to bottleneck the traffic and funnel you closer to them. So instead of getting to enjoy the views as much as I would have liked. I was always on the lookout for a quick hand and someone wanting to get close to me to try and sell me something.

There were also some stores I could just not pass up. This place was called It’s Sugar. They had quite a fun little archway into the store.

They also had quite a lot of fun kinds of candy. Along with saying like “diets start tomorrow.” Rather in my case, it would have been weeks later if I had bought anything from here. I was so tempted to buy a box of Easter eggs called “bunny poop.” I rather love fun little gag gifts like that. I, however, was not willing to carry around a bag for the next four or so hours I’d be out exploring for the night. I also never ended up going back to that store to pick it up which is quite a shame.

One of the things that ended up working out quite well about staying at the Pairs was this CVS that was just a short walk away. I’d end up hauling back to the hotel on foot quite a few cases of water and drinks. They only had a slight markup than normal prices. This CVS saved me a ton of money on what would have cost me a lot to have bought at any hotel.

There was even one desperate night where I was starving like crazy and just was not going to spend $12 on a darn hot dog. I went into this CVS and got myself a ham sandwich. Was it amazing? Heck no. I’d eat it again over starving and even got myself a bag of chips at a reasonable price as well.

Thankfully tonight I did not stop at that CVS for dinner. I was walking to the hotel I was staying at. I noticed not that far away from it in the other direction I had been exploring was a Rain Forest Cafe. I have not been to one of these since I was a kid and there are only a couple left in the country.

Like a lot of things in Vegas it was a bit pricey. I’d end up finding much better deals on hamburgers elsewhere. At least here, however, you are paying a bit for the experience of the restaurant. Which I was more than fine with. The burger I had was also not bad. There even ended up being a decent amount of leftover Volcano Nachos for some late-night snacking when I was back at the hotel.

Final Thoughts

late night gambling.jpg

It was then time for some late-night gambling before calling it a night. I did not gamble that much. From the flight and all the excitement of coming here, I was quite worn out at this point. While I had many plans to do a lot of late-night gambling I was usually in bed before midnight. Tired out from all the walking and people.
