Is Tipping The Key To Better Content?

in DTube4 years ago (edited)

Content on here has the chance of earning in upvotes within a 7 day window. After that period of time, most content is basically forgotten.

In this video, I talk about why tipping can raise the quality of the content on here. Long tail, high quality content such as travel blogs, restaurant reviews and DIY videos, stand to benefit from tipping.

Peace & Love,

Adé

Personally think it's going to be one of the biggest benefits to the blockchain and PeakD absolutely crushed it with their implementation of the feature.

Can't wait to see how it develops.

I agree! And thanks for the tip! I turns your name to purple :)

I think tipping will be key to the future of this chain, i saw the report from @dalz and you can see how the method has started to take off in its first month I think once people get used to it and more front ends adopt it will really drive distribution fo the currency into more hands. Inflation was just one method and it wasn't enough, we need more.

Tipping is the first step, we will need subscriptions/recurring tipping, paywalls, paper per view and we can also make tipping more engaging like superchats on live streams.

There are so many ways this can go and can bring more people in without the need to know crypto.

You're thinking big here. I didn't even consider all those other things. Business could establish that way. Thanks for the tip!!

Yes, I think tipping should definitely be encouraged. I can think of some systemic ways to encourage it, but not sure how well it would be received.

We should have had it all along and I can't imagine why it's taken so long as it's a natural fit for this platform. Now since it's just coming around after years of established different behavior it will take a while before the culture shifts to tipping becoming a normal part of how users use the platform.

Yes it will take a while to adjust behaviour. We've grown up upvoting for free and getting something back for it. Thank you for the tip :)

I like tipping. I like it because it's not tied in with any of the politics of voting, it feels like a much more straightforward demonstration of appreciation. Sometimes, I vote and tip (I know, what am I like)? I like the little gift icon and you can just tip there and then and tip a comment, too. You're right about the long-tail rewarding of good content, I think it can also increase and reward engagement.

I'm a bit confused about cross-posting ... peakd have introduced a fix where rewards are declined on a cross post and the votes go through to the original post (that's good and less confusing) ... but I thought one of the huge potentials of cross-posting is that content could be re-discovered time and again by new people coming across it, and the author continued to get rewarded each time it was re-discovered. I'm not sure that will happen now?

To be honest, I've never understood the cross-posting thing. I didn't take time to look into it. I did notice that the community you cross post into might be able to take a percentage of the payout too.

First of all, thanks for the tip.

I think tips are a great way of encouraging content creators. And it can complement the upvote system. If it does become a neon here it can influence or encourage content creators to create content for the long term and most importantly find their niche. As a content creator I have to try several things to stay relevant. However if I discover people like a certain type of content I would spend more time creating such content. Most of the upvotes here are done automatically so you can't really tell if actual humans are consuming your content

Most of the upvotes here are done automatically

Yes, that's a bit of a problem. The main reason why people auto-vote is to optimise the curation rewards. Since you have to get in within the first few minutes to earn more. I think it's time to revisit that and remove that window, so that the curation rewards are equally weighted, regardless of when the vote came in. That way, curators can take their time looking for what they like and upvoting in their own time.

Autovoting isn't all bad. It allows for that Patreon style support.

Great point, Ade. I didn't even think of tipping as rewarding pass the 7 days.

I'm going to start doing it for old content that I like and is under rewarded. Maybe I'll even do a little tip fund budget :)

Thanks for the nice tip :)

This could be the... tipping point...

I see what you did there. And thanks for the tip captain :)

it has definitely raised quality of content earlier we have seen how vote circle jerking used to work which ruined everything and at the end many content creators left

The circle jerking is here to stay for ever. It's the natural way of this world :)

that's why tipping is like a new solution ...
