Today I went to school to pick up my son’s report card for the second half of third grade. To be honest, I went in with very low expectations because, frankly, we haven’t put much effort into school. He’s missed a lot of classes, and we haven’t kept up with all the assignments either, since they always teach the same old stuff. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, my son learns more at home with me than he does at school; the education system in this country is pretty bad. Despite that, he’s had tests that I prepared him very well for, but I never heard from the teacher whether he did well or not. My son always said he did, that he did very well, but sometimes he says that and it’s not true, haha. Today I met with the teacher, and to my surprise, she told me a lot of good things.

She told me he’s improved a lot; he concentrates better in class, and he’s done exceptionally well on his tests. He’s a calm child who doesn’t disrupt class, though sometimes he really wants to play with his friend (yes, he has a best friend), and the teacher told me they’re practically inseparable. She always seats them far apart, but somehow they always end up next to each other. I’m so happy that he has a friend; it’s really comforting for me to know that he has a best friend, since my son has always been pretty shy.

There are only three months left until the end of this grade and the move up to fourth grade. What excites me most about that is knowing that summer break is just around the corner—I really need a break. This year has barely begun, and it’s already hit me with full force, ha ha ha. Anyway, to celebrate the good news the teacher gave me, I took my son to his favorite ice cream shop, although he wasn’t in the best of spirits since he’s been feeling under the weather with the flu since last night—he looks like he’s feeling a little rough.
