ULOG, various stuff to talk about

in #ulog7 years ago

Hello, steemit peoples! Welcome to my page, eh!

Some of you may have noticed that I haven't posted very much lately. I've been kind of busy around the house lately, and haven't had much material to write about for the past week or 2.

This picture is just so there's a thumbnail picture for the post in the feed.

I seemed to have run into a combination of a lack of things to write a post about, and a lot of stuff to get done around the house over the past week or so. I found myself having to play catch up on some electronic repair work for a friend who brings me stuff to fix for him. I had been letting it slide this fall because of other stuff that was going on, but I decided that I'd better get some things fixed for him because I knew that he was due to be back in town for the holidays. It's like the old college thing, wait until the last minute and then panic...LOL
Most of what I had to get done wasn't really worth writing about, but I'll be writing a post in the near future about the repair of the old Ampeg Gemini guitar amp that I made a short video about 2 weeks ago. You can watch that here if you're interested.

The weather here has been a bit weird over the past week or so, it's more like Chicago or Detroit than the weather that we used to get in da U.P. Alternating between above freezing and below freezing, sometimes snow, sometimes rain, and mostly always overcast. The overcast part is the only normal part about the weather lately. I gotta admit though, we did have a few sunny days in the last couple of weeks, so it wasn't always gloomy.

Another thing that kept me busy for a couple of days was cutting up a venison hindquarter. My ex asked me to cut it up for her so that she could can it for later use for quick meals. Her brother gave her a frozen hindquarter from one of the deer that he got this last season, and I don't think she's ever done the job of cutting the meat off the bone and preparing it for stew meat. I was the one who did that when we were together.

After getting it all cleaned up and cut up, I was supposed to bring it over to her house for canning. However, the weather has been bad for the last couple of days and the roads have been pretty crappy, so I decided to just can it myself rather than go out in the weather. That was today's project. It took 2 runs of the pressure canner to get it all canned, which takes quite a while. The pressure is held above 10 pounds pressure for 1 hour and 15 minutes for pints, and there's all the prep time, the time it takes to build the pressure up in the canner, and the cool down period afterward before you can take the jars out of the canner. I ended up with 12 pints of cubed venison.
I will probably write a post about deboning the hindquarter, that's the only part of the job that I got pictures of.

I have 5 or 6 songs that I've been trying to work on a bit at a time, but I put them aside so that I could get a couple of live performance Christmas songs done before Christmas. Now that we're past that, I'll be getting back to work on a couple of the songs. I had been working on a song before the Christmas season and had half the tracks done for it, but my old desktop computer that I've been using for recording has been giving me problems, and the Audacity program lost the tracks, again... I finally decided that I needed to solve the computer problem, so I found a replacement mother board with processor and bought it on payday. It wasn't very expensive, parts for the older computers are fairly cheap now. The mother board came with a dual core 3.2 GHz processor, better than the one that was in the original board. I got the board swapped out and setup, now I'm ready to try some recording again, but I haven't had much time to do it yet. With any luck, I won't have any more problems with the computer or with Audacity. I thought about getting another audio interface program, but I'm not sure if the computer can handle most of the current ones, they require a lot of processing power and ram memory to work.

Hopefully, in the next week I'll get back on track with the music work, and maybe I'll even find some other interesting things to write about. I guess I might have to get creative about finding things to write a post about.
Well, that's about all I have for this post.

Thanks for stopping by my page and checking out my post, eh!
