Yesterday was one of the best days! :)
I worked with and helped my father to get his shoes on for the first time since he went to the hospital and I helped him do some work in the shop and then he was able to get into the car also for the first time since he got sick and he did it surprisingly easily without needing my help and was feeling so good he decided to try to go for a short drive around the neighborhood.
I was admittedly a little scared at first, but... It went really good. No problems, he was driving smooth and in good control and I felt safe like I usually do when he drives.
We drove up to the top of Chavez and looked at the view of all the mountains and my father started getting a bit emotional because it was so beautiful... I could relate because when I got out of the hospital after almost dying a few years back and went for my first walk in nature I started crying it was so beautiful.
It was so great to see him driving again and having his freedom and ability to travel restored. <3
He grew up in Detroit in that era or age where driving was becoming more mainstream and was a symbol of freedom and it was one of the best feelings of my life to see him getting back to his life and getting some of his freedom back!
By the way this picture I included was one that we found in the attic of my father playing guitar in Jerome with a few of his old friends! I think it's an awesome picture. :) Also, I'd love to learn guitar or another musical instrument someday! I feel like that's something that's been lacking in my life.
