Steem price is up, FOMO is back and so are the Blog Diggers, yes all those users that left when their posts were making 3 dollars, the ones that re-post news from the Internet and pictures they didn't take. But I am not here to bash those users, on the contrary I am here to tell you that is ok, is the way the platform is meant to work.
Steem is a blockchain so I think its accurate to compare Blog Diggers to Bitcoin Miners. When price is up miners rush to buy miners and rent hash, that drives difficulty up and it becomes harder to receive rewards. It is the same in Steemit, price is up so bloggers rush to post as much as they can so they can receive rewards, but because more people post there is more competition to attract votes, thus difficulty to receive rewards increases.
We can't complain that some users are openly trying to "rape" the reward pool and we definitely should not think that Steemit has failed because of it. On the contrary, Steemit benefits from a growing user base, Blog Diggers are here to stay and they help attract users to Steemit as they link their posts all over the internet and tell their friends that they can become rich on Steemit too. On the long run, Steemians will see right trough them and start flagging plagiarism and inappropriate content.
When Steem was at $0.10 cents not many people seemed to care, but we are just entering a long bull period so be ready for some controversy!
If you wish to read more about Steemit's Blogging Difficulty concept I recommend you to read something I wrote a while ago: "Steemit's Blogging Difficulty Index".
I left when Steemit was $0.10, however I spend a minimum of 3 hours on a blog post, sometimes more. So getting $3 or less was a bit depressing for me, although I did post a few blogs back in the lean times.
Ultimately nobody much cares how much I put in except me, so if I get rewarded $50-$100 or more then I think OK, that was worth it, if not I don't. Copy n pasters will always be around regardless of the rewards I think.

@cryptogee I have always enjoyed your content, from day one I have voted you, followed you and placed you in my auto-voting bot. So when you left I was a bit let down... of course I respect your decision since writing takes time and time is money, but I genuinely enjoy reading you and I believe you enjoy writing too.
So, next time you feel like leaving, think of your followers, people who regardless of the rewards enjoy reading you and sharing thoughts by commenting your posts.
Wow, thank you Chitty for those kind words. That really means a lot to me, especially as you are someone I have followed for a long time. In fact that has inspired me to start up my Asimov's Ghost series again. I stopped because I was taking so much time to write it, and it seemed like I was getting a diminishing audience.
Some of those took me 5 days to write one chapter, so it was really the lack of comments and votes on some of them, rather than the actual rewards that hurt. However to hear you say that has really warmed my heart, and I will do my best to keep on writing.
Thank you :-)

Looking forward to your series.
I'm a Blog Digger (cute term...I like it)
I find interesting stuff on the internet,
so you don't have to take the time.
and I share it on Steemit.
If people are voting your content, and judging by your rep I assume they are, then it means your content has value to your followers, so..like I said you are contributing to the growth of Steemit and Steem Blockchain!
when robots are gone I'll have to change my strategy..right now it's a no brainer.
I like robots... they automatize life.. people earn the rights to be on auto-voting bots, its a privilege that only good posters get after they have been on the Steemit long enough producing content.
meep
robots invite spam
I like the term "Blog Diggers", it goes well with "Swagger Jackers".
yeap. it's good!
Thanks @chitty for this post. I am new here but did notice what you call the blog diggers and was concerned. But I like your take on it and will no longer waste any brain cells worrying about it!
cheers to those who have been here the whole time :)
YES !!!!
Great post
I was here more or less the whole time and also notice this trend as of lately. I guess it is good since the word about Steemit is spreading. We need the momentum.
Indeed, it's no different than mining. Or any kind of free market, really. As the word spreads, we'll have more seasoned bloggers join Steemit. There'll be intense competition. I know I'll be replaced by better bloggers at some point.
I enjoyed the time when the difficulty was low. That combined with no-whale-voting meant I'd regularly get on the Trending page and get a fair few views and comments. Now, I don't even think about the Trending page. The Trending page is reserved for more popular authors and topics, and rightfully so.
Well said.
I have seen, felt, and been the target of this negative sentiment, as I'm sure many of us have been. But these are the rules we have right now - take them or leave them, or join the discussion on how we can improve things. The system itself has issues, as do all new systems, and they will be worked out over time.
To be completely candid about my experiences - I almost am afraid to write posts at times.
I fear that someone's going to start bitching about it. I've been having a blast writing posts on chainBB, treating it like an actual forum, posting updates, creating new sections and features. But if I start writing many posts a day, which isn't uncommon in a forum, that might happen. People are going to vote on my posts because they're betting they'll get a decent curation reward.
So what can I do to solve that?
It's a bunch of bad options. The best solution is basically for everyone to understand what you'd laid out above - just accept that the rewards are going to go where the rewards are going. The hashrate for every coin increase as the price spikes and competition gets fierce. That's what's happening here right now - and I think it's probably a good thing. Competition will do wonders for the quality of content on steemit as new players struggle for their share.
Totally right. There are many people who post original content and interesting content and no one gives them a damn, on the other hand some people just write 2-3 common lines, 1 pic and voila tons of votes. And as it gets more votes, it gets even more votes, as everybody is interested in curator awards. But I guess, Steemit is still a platform to communicate, discuss and post without worrying about the SEO and all. You know 1 thing for certain that if you keep consistent, then you will come out to be a winner. Working hard to reach that stage, as so many others!
Steemit is like a boyfriend that I just could not bring myself to break up with. In March when Dan quit, I became slightly less active, although I kept checking the site without logging in. It was super depressing days for me, because I really believed every word Dan said. I never even considered him leaving to build something else. That's when I went looking for other communities...the drama here was getting to me! It's fun to see human nature at work......and on the spectrum of pessimist/optimist, I swing back and forth, but I do believe in the good people overcoming the bad, so i guess I had always hope that steemit could recover from its dark days. I had no idea it would be so fast though.
I joined, stayed and will stay more, never left ! Doesn't matter how long I spend on a post. I just do it and move .....
I'm new here, so maybe I'm a blog digger?
followed.
Yeah! They're back! They'll still be very early adopters could have been earlier adopter still. Have fun @chitty! The ride is awesome! Right?
This post is great!! Thanks for sharing!! :) Followed!! :) Have a nice day!! :)
