How to Let Go

I was talking to the muse earlier and discussing the concept of letting go and I thought I'd share my thoughts as they always seem to reshape and mold differently over time. Letting go is probably the most vague and fundamentally important concept that I can imagine philosophically. How do I let go? Let go of what? The simple answer would be everything that you're afraid to lose, but that doesn't really help with the "how" aspect very much.

Often, I find myself contemplating simpler ways to express my interpretation of many teachings and relating them to my own ideas, and this one is no different. It was in thinking about why I do this and why I write poetry or anything else I do that a very simple answer came to me. What do I suggest letting go of? Anything you don't actually want. No excuses as to why you can't, no justifying it, and no being afraid of what happens next. It's simple really, if we let go of everything we don't want and are mindful of that, the only things that could possibly be left over are the things we do want.

I can't tell anyone it's easy or that they can't come up with better excuses to justify doing things that they don't want to do than I can reasons why they shouldn't. The truth I've found is that we all have to make that decision for ourselves and perhaps that's what all philosophy is really about in the end, simply showing people that there are other ways and allowing them to choose them for themselves or reject them accordingly. I don't think there's any one size fits all solution to life and anyone that tries to tell anyone else there is one is probably trying to charge them astronomical amounts of money, but I do believe we all have the power to figure out what works for us. Namaste.

very inspiring I'm going to use some of your advice

I hope you find it as peaceful as I do. :)

Yes, I think this is a gradual process too. It's not something you have to tear away from yourself all at once. You can do it bit-by-bit and day-by-day. I started out by getting rid of a lot of my physical belongings and not buying more. That helped me start to take mental inventory in my life too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

i still don't understand the concept. Why should i let go of something i need or i am afraid to lose?

Because it has control over you.

Most of the time, people tend to do the things that are less important and the result is they tend to ignore the things that are more important.

So letting go of the less important things in your life is necessary so that you can give room and focus on the things that are more important to you.

Well said...... Letting go..
But it hurts sometimes..
That we want and could not manage to get it, if we letting go that then I think we feel some bad maybe its little but it occurs.

that is a great concept..
thanks friend

Letting go at times is necessary for the cycle of life to flow well, when we let go,it means sometimes we leave what we are fighting for, that is, give it up,

Good post , Really good read...

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.

Beautiful philosophy - probably one that takes a lifetime (or 10) to fully embody. Reminds me of detachment in Buddhism...or the Tower card in Tarot (while do I feel deja vu as I write this comment...weird)

:)

Very thought provoking. I think holding on to things probably takes years off of your life. Your post is a great reminder to be mindful.
