Hi fellow Skaters,
The other day the little man and I were out when I saw an opportunity to help my roots!

Supporting Skate Parks
One of the things I like to be able to do as I get older is do what I can to help people in what little ways that I can. It’s not a lot of money but there’s always a way to help out even if you can’t spend a lot. This was one of them!
We were out getting breakfast when I saw a sign for buying a drink that then goes to support the rebuilding of a local skatepark! Sign me up! I got a delicious drink and at the same time I was able to help the community rebuild a skatepark that was in disrepair. I don’t know when they will be rebuilding it but I’m sure they are going to collect money all summer and then see what they’ve got to help rebuild it.

This was the smoothie. It was a delicious kiwi, banana, strawberry and almond milk smoothie. It went down great and add a bit of helping others out and you've got me sold on that!

The place also had these funny messages on their bags. The little man loved it and wanted to share it with mum so we had to keep the bag.

It was a great surprise we had this weekend when we were out doing normal things and got this random bit of support in. One of the things I loved growing up was seeing the improvements and new skateparks being built so it's a shame that that has slowed down and we don't really get new parks or improved parks anymore. Hopefully they can get a lot of support to help rebuild the park! I believe I drove by it once and it wasn't too bad but it was also kind of falling apart.

Good deal! I still have fond memorys of getting a new skate park put in at a local YMCA when I was a kid. Some kid somewhere is going to be super stoked because of that drink you bought. You still skate?? I got a board again the beginning of this summer after not skating for a while and I've already shred it down to barely anything on the tail lol
Lol that's awesome man! Have you joined the @skatehive community yet?! @knowhow92 does an awesome job of keeping this group together!
I don't skate anymore, since our son was born in the one working so I can't get hurt and be out of work lol. I did ride it home from the mechanic two or three times and it was awesome to do some ollies and stuff! I managed a kick flip still and was able to get the spin down for a 360 flip but my legs are out of shape for that stuff so I couldn't get the good pop like I used to. Still got my board in the closet though!
Yeah I hear that. I mostly just skate around town and pop some ollies, kickflip, and 3 flips myself. Not as daring as I used to be but I still see some gaps or drops and are really tempted to try them. Then I think to myself "What's the best case scenario? I land a sweet trick no one sees? What's the worst case scenario? I'm out of work and can't make money?" So yeah I weigh my options and they just aren't in favor of skating anymore. Guess that's growing up!
You think your son will pursue skating?? As crazy as I was as a kid, I don't know how I feel about teaching my 6 year old brother-in-law. I hate seeing kids fall even though that's all I did as a kid lol
Good on you. As a youth skateparks were cool in all but nothing like hitting up the stairs at the local shopping malls and commercial areas!
Haha yeah we definitely had a lot of fun skating other places. We had some good spots in the Boston area but they tore a lot of them down, some quite intentionally because we skated them it was bullshit. One tennis court had the best pair of benches in it! We put some awesome metal coping on it and they were about knee high so a great height. We skated the place at least once a week and one day they brought in an excavator and ripped it all out and rebuilt the fence in a spot that removed just our favorite skating spot. It was such a kick in the balls to us skaters! Some old fucks were mad we had fun, it was shit like that that would turn people away from it. We weren't doing drugs and shit, we were just skating!
I ruined so many curbs with candle wax 😄
LOL My dad still complains to this day that the curbs in front of his house are still waxed up! I tried it out a few years ago after not skating there for a long time and they still did a decent nose-slide! It's great to see things waxed up when I go places, makes me feel good that there are some skaters around!
Skaters United bro. Hope the guys can reach their goal and rebuild the skatepark.
Hell yeah man! It was great to see that and to get a chance to help some locals! I'm hoping they get the park rebuilt by next spring.
