Hey Steem friends! So, after nearly a week of not posting because I was practicing and learning about vlogging and my new mic and little editing things that seem so minor, but take up precious amounts of time, I decided to share some of my practice posts with you!
I was literally in my PJs hoping not to get the attention of any of the kids, who were supposed to be sleeping anyway, but you know how that goes!
Things I've learned so far:
- I need better lighting.
- The camera on my laptop is really weird! It's down near the keyboard instead of at the top like most laptops!
- I make a lot of funny faces and noises when I speak!
As for the content, I am asking about how you parents get vlogging done with kids around! I know some folks have said they wait until some kids are in school and the baby is napping, but my kids homeschool and two are going through some type of growth spurt or phase where they require my physical presence 95% of the time!!
It's definitely an interesting time in my life where I'm balancing trying to get it all done with also showing them how important it is to fill your own vessel with things that fulfill you, so that you may in turn be your best for those around you! Well, that's not in the post, but it still rings true.
So, any tips for vlogging with kids around all the time?
Also, is there anything you want to know about me? I find myself making lists of possible posts and debating what others actually would want to know.
I hope you enjoy this series of my own self-training sessions and I would really appreciate any tips, advice or constructive criticism you have to offer! Really! You wouldn't hurt my feelings because that's how we grow, right?
When you're GREEN, you're GROWING!
When you're RIPE, you ROT.
My goal is to keep on learning! That's my version of the Fountain of Youth!

For the vlog it is fairly simple to do shorter clips and stitch as you find time, not sure if you get any in between time but I’ve found it difficult myself working 2 jobs vlogging and trying to manage #onelovedtube. My fiancé gets this weekend no interruptions 😓 she has been patient with me seeing how much is happening.
Glad your with us.
Thanks @d00k13! I so appreciate all the support and feedback! Enjoy your weekend and spoil that girl! 🌹
Lol I replied to myself, was a good day 🤗 lol or as I said previously
ON IT!
ON IT!
Mic sounds great! :)
I know it can be tough, but keep at it! We're also going to be home schooling :)
Thanks! I really enjoy the way you are so personable in your posts. Like, I feel like you could sit and have a coffee or beer with just about anyone and make them feel like you already knew them. Not all vloggers achieve that. I think that's one of my goals.
That's awesome about the homeschooling! I never thought I'd homeschool, but after working in the public school system as a music and art teacher, and having friends in admin, I quickly changed my mind and while it's not easy, it's totally worthwhile!
Hey good on you. I want to play around with dlive a bit also... Just haven't found the time yet.
I tried recording some challenges the kids wanted to do... But Daddy needs alot more practice with the go pro, before I even start to learn about video editing lol.

Right? I'm such a newb with the editing! Only the bare-bones basics, if that! Looking forward to seeing your dlivev stuff!
Ha!!!! I laughed when you said you had to do the whole night routine in your pajamas so the kids would “think” you were going to bed too lol!
Oh my I can relate to you so much. It’s easier making a post when you have small children but doing a vlog and adding audio is a total different story. I am also tuning in here to the comments to take in some of the advice.
Your microphone is great, it carries your voice well. I am about to start making some crochet tutorials on DTube and I have just invested in some good LED lighting and a small microphone that I can clip to my shirt. Those are the main things I hear people say is that you first need good lighting and a good microphone. I plan on doing my vlogging when the kids are in bed as well and on the weekends when my husband can stay with them downstairs while I’m recording upstairs. I always find it best to get on Steemit when my husband is around to be with the kiddos...it’s my getaway time ;)
Oh yes, a clip microphone would be nice for so many things! And I try to do it when my husband is with the kiddos, but we're just so busy. For now, late nights are it! 🤣
I hope it works okay. I just received it yesterday so I’ll be doing some testing this weekend.
Oh I totally understand...ya gotta fit it in when ya can 👍🏽😅 I’m sure I’ll be doing late nights sometimes too.
Lol, I make funny faces when I talk all the time too. You might need to a separate web cam!
Yes, I've noticed on your little downvoting videos! But that makes it so interesting!! I've always talked with my hands-it's the Portuguese in me. Can't help it! You have to have serious ninja skills to interrupt a Portuguese conversation! Ha! But I didn't realize what a workout I was giving my face! 🤣
I have a Sony5100 that does nice video, but the Blue Yeti doesn't work with it. Then my phone takes decent video. I know I need some lighting, so that's next on my wish list. I'll have to look into a web cam after that. Thanks @meesterboom!
Today I had that problem too! How I did it was get my toddler to watch his fave show while I did some recording and when he wanted something different I would help him and then get back to recording again.. I did get cranky sometimes when he was making a lot noise or being disruptive like touching my camera or gear
Yes, if I try to get instruments out or anything new, they're all over it! And having the 5 and 2 yr old is a challenge. I feel like I need an extra set of arms often-times!
I have two sons and I know exactly what you mean. It is very tough to vlog when all the family life things crop up. I bumped into a customer in the super market the other day and my eldest told them about how I had made a post about spending time with your kids and not working all the time when I should have been spending time with my kids lol. I like to involve mine as much as possible and being as this is the future they will benefit from learning about it early. Mic sounds great, that is on my list too. Awesome
Ha! Sounds like he's got quite the sense of humor and at the same time wants to spend time with his dad. That is a gift. Whenever my husband or I get annoyed with the interruptions, I try to remind him that very soon, they may not want to spend so much time with us! How old are your boys? My kids are 12, 8, 5 & 2. We started up an alt-acct for them, @crowbarkids, so that they could dabble, do some homeschool projects and such. However, I need to develop a better routing around it. We're not nearly as consistent as we should be.
They both have a wicked sharp sense of humour. I am blessed with both of them. Mine are 6 and 8, but I am also very aware that they are growing up quick so I am spending as much time as I can with them. Maybe I will be lucky and they will still want time with me as teenagers.
Good Idea with the account. It is very difficult vlogging and keeping up with family things.
Any way to share your vlogs on YouTube as well or do you record them only on dtube? I cannot watch anything on Dtube apparently. I heard the same from some other people on Discord recently. Glad you are learning and sharing what you're learning. :) Mine just keeps loading and loading and loading...and takes hours if I want to watch just a short video. It's so frustrating. EDIT: Yea! I finally got this one to work. I just have to click on the link instead of on the pic. The pic never works. You sound great - nice and calming! It is always nice to hear you talk! Hopefully you can figure out how to get some vlogs done with kids around...or build a phone booth or padded room into your house. ;) Ha.
Padded room! 🤣🤣🤣 I love it!
Oops, accidentally posted it twice.
I guess, if the kids are not too disruptive, I would just go ahead with them there especially if it is not a heavy topic...
My kids are bigger, and I include them in most of my vlogs making them do bits and pieces to give the it some variety.
I just realised you have four too as I only saw 2 in the The Bogger Song Video, and they are still very young and they are home schooled which means they are around almost all the time... so yeah, if they get into frame, I think it's ok :)
