Bears

DSC09961.jpeg

After a couple of hours on the trail, I finally reached lower Rowe Lake. Just as the lake itself was becoming visible, I immediately saw a couple of black bears swimming across the lake. Wow. Excitement and a bit of fear went through me at that instant. I was alone, but did have a nice big can of bear spray in my pocket which gave me some sense of relief (some). Luckily, they did not see me and kept going across to the other side. I did manage to grab a couple of quick pics before they disappeared into the woods. This is probably the closest I have come to a bear encounter, and probably not my last. Have you had any bear encounters? If so, tell us about it. Thanks for stopping by.

Fortunately, they had other interests that day! You were far enough away that you weren't a threat which is a good thing. The last thing you want to do is surprise one, then they can be very unpredictable. Especially a mother with a cub! Which is exactly what you stumbled across. Always keep that bear spray handy, it might save your life one day!

Beautiful shots of the bears, even if they were some distance away! I've seen bears from a distance as well, and was thankful they kept their distance. Most of the time they want to avoid you as much as you do them. Glad you walked away safely from that one!

Fortunately they did not see me and kept swimming across the lake. It was a thrilling moment actually, somewhat scary, but mostly thrilling. Always feels great to have a full can of bear spray at hand, always.

Wow, thank God that you were on the other side of the lake and not on the side where the bear actually was. But, that's a beautiful shot though. I heard those bears can be excessively territorial as well as very aggressive too.

Yes, I was lucky not to surprise them! Surprising bears is the worst, and provokes attacks.

if it's black fight back :)
No, in our forests there are no bears. Just once in a decade or so a (brown?) bear comes over from the more dense Eastern European forests.

Plenty of bears here in Canada, just have to make sure and carry bear spray while out in the woods.

WOW!...
