Hello steemit ! @dexterdev here :)

So it was this January 4th, I started steemit. And I am happy to say that it was a good decision for me to join this platform. It was quite different from other platforms and surprised me a little bit initially, like the password system, the cryptocurrency thing etc. Still learning new things about STEEM and steemit.

Its a happy feeling to be a steemian and a proud steemSTEM contributor (although a beginner) :)
So I thought I will re-introduce myself here, since when I intially did so, I was very new to steemit and did it casually.

How I found steemit?

In India there are relatively less number of steemit users. And I came to know about this platform by randomly surfing internet. I was very much interested in deep learning and cryptocurrency/blockchain stuff and used to extensively search on these topics. Once I came to know about crypto coin called STEEM in youtube. I used to always think why the website stackexchange never uses blockchain technolgy and pays the users. And then I saw steemit! Yes, steemit was a dream come true! Honestly!

Who am I ?

I think, therefore I am ? NO... (true for many, not for me)

My mother exists, therefore I am! YES. Let me explain. Its not my birth I am talking about, its my rebirth I am talking about. I was once affected by bipolar disorder. And in places like my village no one usually escapes such incidents. But my mom struggled a lot to take me to a great hospital and got me diagnosed. With the help of few good relatives and great doctors I am fine now. But my mom’s sacrifice has nothing equal. This incident is a long story though.

I am Devanand, coming from very moderate backgrounds from Kerala, South India. I am from a village called Painkulam (pronounced as Pyne-kulam). I consider myself a Dravidian and Indian. I am also an agnost.

I am trained as an electronics engineer. But switched to doing research in computational biology recently. Currently I do Classical molecular dynamics of biological systems for my research work. My favourite subjects are :

Signal Processing
Embedded Systems
Information Theory
Complex Systems and Active matter
Biophysics
Machine learning
etc

Other than science, I am interested in history, knowing other cultures, politics, econophysics etc. I also love to play badminton, table tennis and cricket. I also like to tinker with electronic circuits. Below is a video clip of EMG signal detector I made for the Science-day at IMSc.

What annoys me the most?

Regarding India

The concept of India is different for different people. India is a society made on the basis of an evil class system. Modern India is a creation of Britishers. Yes the imperial evil Great Britain. So we suffer a lot because of British. I am a frustrated Indian(?). There are lot of identity crisis going on inside me. And the education sysem is worse here. I think any “sane” person who tries to think here properly goes “insane”. [By the way “Insaan” in hindi/urdu means human being!] Sometimes I feel proud of being Indian. Sometimes I consider proud for living in this subcontinent. But I am sure about onething. I am proud of being a dravidian. Most of the times I get annoyed by the “ONE PEOPLE-ONE NATION” concept about India. Let me make it clear : “India is not ONE PEOPLE-ONE NATION”. If someone tells you this about India, I advise you to recheck it. India is a nation of multiple ethnicities, languages, religions and cultures. In fact “UNITY IN DIVERSITY” is what mentioned about India in the constitution. The current ruling party is converting India to a Hindu republic. This is annoying me. The current ruling party is converting India to a crony capitalistic economy, which annoys me. I am also annoyed for the fact that hindi getting compelled in regions where it is not the primary language in India. Hindi is portrayed as the national language of India, which it is not. I am also annoyed wealth distribution disparity in India. It is said that 73% of wealth generated is owned by 1% of population. This is an example of a corrupt society. Our policy makers must do something for this.

But being said that, I don't have any hatred towards anyone or anything. I have taught myself to live in this society. Basically everyone are good I believe.

Regarding Science in India

I am annoyed by the class systems in science in India. This is in general a universal problem, but worse in India. In a theoretical institute, people(not all, but many) consider applied science useless! I dont understand the logic!
I am annoyed by the pseudo-science movement in India. I annoyed by the over all education system in India.
I am annoyed by the fact that history in India is being erased and fabricated for the political benefits of right winged parties.

Regarding steemit

The number of fakes and copy-paste authors!!! But in long term they will perish I guess. Once a user came to chat to me to know my source of some transaction in my wallet history. Why should be she concerned about this? No idea. Creeps are everywhere! :|

Why India is still special?

There is something which I need to expalin here. Why India is still special? Because even after criticizing my country so much, I am still alive with my limbs intact. Yes there are extreme cases where people looses their organs. But in this subcontinent and campared to some other regions in this world, we are in a better position I guess. I have the freedom to criticize! And I am using it responsibly. May be things may get worsen (or better?).

People I like from steemit

I think steemit is a great platform. To succeed here is not easy (if you are a true honest person! :P ). One thing which I learned is to deliver quality and origianl content. And to make great friends. Humans are social animals, so it is important to connect to other people here. It is very difficult to get noticed otherwise I guess. I also advise you to get the lessons from seniors here. Follow “Whales” who deliver quality content. I can suggest people like @suesa , @lemouth , @justtryme90 and @trumpman from #steemSTEM

I would like to thank @shaka who votes my quality science content. I have observed that this user spots my technical article and if it is worthy, votes for it. I am happy that there are people who support original content.

I would like to mention @firepower who is the steemit India unofficial brand ambassador. He works very hard to organize meetups and does a lot of events which strengthens the steemit-India community. I would like to meet him once. @firepower : We should do one meeting at Chennai.

And I would like to mention my friend @treslotos who is delivering cool popular science content. Like me, he is also a beginner in steemit. We are from same institute.

Finally why steemit is special for researchers

I would recommend that all research students to use steemit. Research students can get some pocket money for supporting them, specifically in developing countries. Like travel and application fee for science conference programmes. Everyone knows that it is difficult for students to get funding in developing nations. So please be a part of #steemSTEM community, deliver great content nad earn some pocket money. Also we can be better in our writing skills too! After all scientists get recognition through their publications only. I seriosuly belive that #steemSTEM is an initiative which can motivate research students for this win-win scenario!
