There are a number of top curators in Hive having HP in millions. Of course, that includes delegated HP also. Being a top curator naturally attracts more delegation from the individual users including whales.
I will give some insights into the top 5 curators of the Hive community. The curator with highest net HP is @appreciator with 7.037 million HP and he is the only curator having HP more than 5 million(including delegated HP) at this time. The other curators are @rocky1, @upmewhale, @theycallmedan, @blocktrades, etc in the league of top 5 curators.
I have taken into account the net HP at this moment(including the delegated HP). I have not included any account with net HP below 2 million HP. So all the top 5 accounts are having net effective HP more than 2 million at this moment.

The above HP figures are in millions.
There is a common community guideline. Alongside, the curators have their specific curations standards to curate a piece of content and drop upvotes. Being a decentralized community, everyone is free to value which piece should worth how much.
So a user is always advised to visit the community page of the respective curators to know their curation standards and accordingly produce content and post to the designated community. That will increases the likelihood of getting curated by the curators.
@appreciator, @rocky1, @upmewhale
These three curators have their dedicated community called GEMS. So if you produce quality content, comply with the community standards and post it in GEMS, then you are likely to be curated by any/all of these three curators.
They may sometimes run their initiatives specific to an event and/or topic and invite participation and curate the submissions. So keep watching their blog page for any such event.
@theycallmedan
@thecallmedan runs his own initiative. He is the 4th top curator at this moment. You can visit his blog and get to know which are the running initiatives by him. You can find a lot of users participating in his initiatives. So he is a busy curator. It may so happen that you can find more than one or two initiatives at the same time. And in his initiatives, there is no such thing as winner or loser, almost all get curated. However, the best content receives high size upvotes.
There are also some dedicated tags which he curates regularly, such as #promo-hive #hivequora. The #quarantinelife #whencoronaends are running at this moment. He also curates the vlogs in Threespeak.online, which is the decentralized, censorship-resistant version of Youtube. So he is now sitting at 4th as curator in terms of net HP.
@blocktrades
The 2nd top curator is @blocktrades in terms of net HP. He is one of the top 20 witnesses as well. His Blocktrades.us exchange is also popular in Hive community. There are no such dedicated tags, however, some of the initiatives by others are sponsored and/or associated with blocktrades. He may sometimes run an initiative of his own and invite users of the community to participate.
Nos. of posts curated vs Nos. of unique authors
Now let's look at how many numbers of contents each of these top 5 curators have curated over the past 30 days and how many of them are unique content.
In case of error, visit the external link for image(ds007)
In terms of nos. of posts that have been curated by these top curators, @blocktrades lead with 1033 followed by @upmewhale, @appreciator, @theycallmedan, @rocky1.
In terms of nos. of unique authors, it is @blocktrades again who leads with 584 unique authors followed by @theycallmedan, @appreciator, @upmewhale, @rocky1.
Unique Author Ratio
It is the ratio of the number of unique authors to the number of contents curated. This is really an important parameter to establish how diverse or expanded the curation is.
Unique Author Ratio= Nos of unique Authors/Nos of posts curated
In case of error, visit the external link for image(ds008)
When the ratio tends to approach 1, that means the curator is curating more unique authors and when the ratio goes below 0.4 and tends to approach towards 0.1, indicates repetitive authors are being curated.
Unique Author Ratio may also indirectly hint more new authors are participating in the initiatives and/or communities.
In that context, @thecallmedan is leading the front. His unique author ratio is really good, stands at 0.696. @blocktrades comes in the second spot followed by @appreciator, @rocky1, @upmewhale, etc.

We should have a better Unique Author Ratio from everyone who is having more than 10 K HP to take this block chain to next level and not wait for these big accounts only. Everyone thinks, hive will cherish - but that's not going to happen only because of these big accounts. Its a responsibility of everyone.
While that is true, the 10K HP league of curators are also plagued with bot curation by following certain trail. As such that is not a bad thing, but that's hurting manual curation.
The top 5 as I mentioned above are purely manual curation. Some of them just need to improve their Unique Author Ratio.

Very useful informations!
I appreciate that!
This is some cool stuff, thanks. I've never seen votes from some of them but that's ok, hopefully someday! Just keep plugging away and putting out content.
Thank you. Pay attention to Unique Author Ratio. That can explain more to your query.
Well let’s hope that others can join the ranks too, lol I also want to be a bad ass curator one day when I’m big
In my opinion, rank is not important(although that is good if we have more in that league), what the community want is the more number of top curators having Unique Author Ratio more than 0.6 or so. The community only has one curator in that zone at this time. The community and the new users feel comfortable with curators having Unique Author Ratio more than 0.6. Curating more unique authors also makes the curation engagement dynamic.
nice, thanks for sharing.
You are welcome.
Thanks for the stats, helpful to understand the state-of-top-curation :-)
I appreciate that. You are most welcome.
Very insightful.
Well most of the upvotes I have gotten in recent times have been from these curators.
I hope other too stakeholders join in as well. delegations might help a lot of communities as well
Yes, Keep an eye on Unique Author Ratio, that gives more insight from an author's perspective. The new authors and the community by large feel more comfortable with curators having Unique Author Ratio more than 0.6 or so. We have only one curator in that range. That is the reason you can see an influx of new authors into the initiatives of @theycallmedan. We need more curators in that range.
A very well detailed and constructive analysis. Thank you for sharing.
I appreciate that.
Nice to see a heathy distribution of curation based on the unique authors stat. It tells you manual curation can indeed work.
No, except 3 curators, I do not see the other curators curating more unique authors as you can see one out of five has its "unique author ratio" much below 0.4, means they are curating more number of repetitive authors. ideally it should always be above 0.4 or 0.5. A number above 0.6 or 0.7 is really a good indicator and we have only one curator in that zone.
If people produce content only to hope to get an upvote from them I believe is a waste of time...
If u r talking about engagement, then that comes only after producing a content.
A good content is encouraged and curated, because that has the potential to bring engagement as well as information insights. But I agree even an average, fun filled content also bring a lot of engagement. But that is one part of it in the ocean of social blogging/engagement.
If you are hinting at any other aspect, then feel free to say.
This is an incredible analysis. These 5 accounts really help make Hive worthwhile for a lot of people.
Let's encourage them to keep doing well.
The most important thing is Unique Author Ratio. Having a ratio more than 0.6 indicates more unique authors are being curated, that keeps the community dynamic and also a hope for the new authors. We have only one curator at this time having that ratio more than 0.6, we want more curators in that league of "Unique Author Ratio greater than 0.6".
Thanks for stopping by.
agreed there was a measure on Steemworld called CSI which was similar. It still requires some conditions such as no comment votes or no accounts with rep less than 30, etc. But I don't think these guys have a habit of voting on those sorts of accounts.
Bookmarked this, as it needs a deeper look.
Been upvoted by a few of these and it only inspires one to create better posts.
Thank you for the stats.
Take care!
I appreciate that!
My pleasure!
