Synchronicity's Playground

in #story3 years ago (edited)

This is our last full day of nearly six weeks of living in this beautiful desert. The weather was like nothing we’ve ever seen. Even many of the locals had never experienced this much snow and rain. In the entire six weeks we’ve only had around ten days of weather decent enough to hike in.

When things don't go our way it’s sometimes easy to forget just how lucky we are to be able to do this at all. Everything in life is a matter of perspective. Yes, the weather wasn’t ideal but we’ve gotten to see a rare thing that few have, the high desert blanketed with over a foot of snow. I’ve also gotten quite a bit of writing done.

To close this year's trip we found a lesser-known hike called Yavapai Vista Trail. This is an easy hike with an elevation of about 82ft and one of the more beautiful trails we've tried.

Someone had a sense of humor.

According to a plaque at the trailhead, there was an ancient human settlement on this site a little over a thousand years ago. I can see why. They would have commanded a view of the entire canyon and had access to everything they would have needed to survive.

If you ever make it here and are pressed for time, I would definitely add Yavapai Vista Trail to your must-do list.

I took one last soak in the hot tub before leaving. Although it's not in the picture above, a curious hummingbird got into the habit of flying about fifteen feet in front of me, hovering, flying away then coming back again. This got to be our daily routine, when weather permitted. One of the neighbors must of had a hummingbird feeder near their house, attracting them to the area. That was another great memory of the trip. I'm going to miss that little guy.

Making Room...

After my morning meditation today, I started thinking about how our plans going awry sometimes in life is a great gift.

The Universe has a way of communicating to us through synchronicity, or the process of external events coming together to create deep meaning. Since spontaneity is the playground of synchronicity, when we over plan or have an overwhelming desire to control every aspect of our lives this has a way of killing spontaneity and therefore blocking synchronicity.

We might feel "safe in our bubbles" but nothing much exciting happens and we feel generally unconnected and unfulfilled. I can remember feeling like this a lot before I started taking more chances and opening myself up to more possibilities.

We tend to think planning to excess will somehow make us feel less anxiety or fear. In actuality, it severs our line of communication with the Universe and can make the fear and anxiety worse.

Synchronicity is the space in which our greatest lessons can be found. A lot of young children reside in this state nearly all of the time but us adults tend to get amnesia. Of course, as with anything, striking a balance between the two extremes is important. We must make room for synchronicity's playground.

Sometime soon I'll expand on this idea a little and make an entire blog post about it. For now we begin our journey back to the still-frozen North. See you next year, Sedona!

Thanks for reading.

All for now. Trust your instincts, invest in you, live boldly, and take chances.

Poetry should move us, it should change us, it should glitch our brains, shift our moods to another frequency. Poetry should evoke feelings of melancholy, whimsy, it should remind us what it feels like to be in love, or cause us to think about something in a completely different way. I view poetry, and all art really, as a temporary and fragile bridge between our world and a more pure and refined one. This is a world we could bring into creation if enough of us believed in it. This book is ephemera, destined to end up forgotten, lingering on some dusty shelf or tucked away in a dark attic. Yet the words, they will live on in memory. I hope these words become a part of you, bubble up into your memory when you least expect them to and make you feel a little more alive.

Most of us have experienced a moment of perfect peace at least once in our lives. In these moments we lose ourselves and feel connected to everything. I call these mindful moments. Words can’t describe how complete they make us feel.

These moments are usually fragile, evaporating in seconds. What if there was a way to train your mind to experience more of them? It’s deceptively easy and requires nothing more than a subtle shift in mindset. My new book, Mindful Moments, will teach you to be much more content despite the chaos and imperfect circumstances continuing to unfold around you. Awesome view hope you have great experience there.

The universe does have a way of communicating with us. I am glad despite the weather, you had a nice time. I love the pictures too.

Thank you!

You are welcome.

I see nothing left from that ancient human settlement, right? Perhaps, they were one of the very early settlements in the world. I like ancient places and their mysteries.

No, there's nothing left anymore. They must've found artifacts at some point though.

It is exciting and invigorating to be headed out on a vacation, but my favorite part is the ending lol. Be it ever so humble, for me...there truly is no place like home. By rights you should have had more good weather than bad, but such is life. I am sure you have made plenty of great memories.

That's how you know you've found your true home! If I lived in Sedona full time I'd feel that way too. We're so grateful just to travel like this. The bad weather was only a minor inconvenience.

Wow! This was an incredible experience. Very touching those final words. I really agree with you. I also felt you wrote quite a bit and I liked that because your readers were able to , almost, live the journey with you. The hummingbird thing sounds magical to me. There are ancient and indigenous legends that say that meeting a hummingbird is very good luck, they also say that it is the spirit of a dead loved one, who has come to greet you and tell you that all is well. I don't know why I remembered your father and your early trip to your mother's house. Anyway, thank you for sharing with us your experience. You don't know how much I now know about Sedona. hahaha. Big hugs and happy travels. May God take you well, my friend

I would be thrilled if it were either of those things, good luck or my Dad coming for a visit. It was very special, especially since it happened more than once. This tells me it wasn't just a coincidence. Thank you Nancy. I hope you enjoy your weekend!

Gosh your last day! Even if the weather didn't play along all the time, you certainly had a memorable vacation. The snow must have followed you all the way to Sedona!
Have a safe trip back home Eric.

The weather is continuing to curse us. Our flight got cancelled! We made it down to Phoenix, where we're flying out of so we're in a hotel for the night and we're booked on a flight for tomorrow evening. They're having a blizzard back home in MN and that was the cause for the delay. We get one more day of warmth. : ) Thank you my friend. Your big trip is coming up soon! I can't wait to hear about it.

Just be glad it was a bird that visited you in the hot tub and not a mountain lion like the guy in Colorado! Maybe it was Utah. I don't remember. Safe travels home and hopefully your next trip goes a little better.

Lol! Holy moly. I couldn't even imagine a mountain lion. Thank you @bozz. Despite the weather it was still an amazing trip. We're blessed to be able to do that. As you saw on FB our flight was cancelled and we're in Phoenix for the night. Also, Delta almost lost my luggage in the Phoenix airport. If it wasn't for the AirTag I had in my bag I wouldn't have gotten in back. Hopefully tomorrow goes a little more smoothly.

I hope so as well. We survived some tornadoes coming through the region last night so I am thankful for that.

I'm glad your area was spared! The decimation across the country looks really bad. There's a chance we'll be in Phoenix another night because flights coming in and out of Minneapolis are being cancelled sporadically.

Wow, good luck with that! It was quite windy today, but my wife and I had a really nice day. Getting ready to enjoy some college basketball in our hotel room tonight!

Thanks! We made it into SkyHarbor airport because everything was on time but we're looking at a major delay now. Always an adventure. Lol. Enjoy the games!

Thanks, I appreciate it. The first one turned into quite the game. I hope you make it home soon!

Looks like you really enjoy your life, friend. Lots of walking lots to see. You look so happy with your journey. God bless you , Eric

Thank you Eliana! I appreciate it. I wish you a wonderful weekend!

Arizona was on top of my bucket list since I was a kid, and I doubt that will ever change as long as I don't get to see it, and obviously will be erased from my list. I've always been fascinated by unique places and those sculptures made by nature are something that makes me want to see them as soon as possible. Thank you for reminding me to fight for my dreams :D

I would highly recommend Sedona. You will never forget it and there's something about it that will fundamentally change you. It's amazing beyond words.

We tend to think planning to excess will somehow make us feel less anxiety or fear. In actuality, it severs our line of communication with the Universe and can make the fear and anxiety worse.

The most wonderful things that have happened in my life were unplanned. If we imagine the future a certain way, and then insist on that way becoming reality, we imprison ourselves via our own imagination. So I am always on my toes, looking about for opportunities I hadn't imagined at all.

I do not understand why you keep saying the weather wasn't ideal, then posting photos that make it look like the best weather ever. I suppose cold wasn't expected, but those skies! Those colors!!! That air!!!!!!

Same here @owasco. We do manifest our own realities but if we leave ourselves open to possibilities our realities are so much better than what we could have ever imagined.

Those vibrant, sunny pictures were taken within about a weeks' time. During the other five weeks it was raining or snowing. It's okay though, I got lots of work done during that down time. We enjoyed what good weather we had immensely.

A person should take time out of his life to go to such places because when a person goes to such a place and sees the natural sights, a person feels very happy and gets a lot of peace. All these places looks so beautiful and amazing. I really like it Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome! Thanks for reading.

Once again you have shared your heart-warming scene with us. By going to such places and walking around, half of a person's stress is temporarily removed and he starts to enjoy the natural scenery and weather.

So true! Just that brief pause in life gives you the space to breathe.

Nature has no bad weather, every weather is a blessing. You just need to see all the positives in it. I never cease to admire the beauty of Sedona.

Very true! We must find the best in everything we can.

This capturing are so nice and beautiful that I couldn't resist to look it more and more again.

Seems like a really special trip :) ... Shy didn't you want to get out and play in the snow?

It was a great trip! They generally don't get anywhere near that much snow and don't have to snow removal equipment so we were pretty much stuck at home until everything melted. I still got out and walked.

How long did it take to melt? It must have felt do surreal walking around the desert with it full of snow!

It is always happy to see you travelling and enjoying yourself like this, Not everyone could do that. I love to travel, but responsibilities don't let me do that. I wish you safe journey and best of luck for your future travels.

I really appreciate it! I hope you get a chance to travel soon!

a hummingbird and bubbles, nice combination.

Yes, we should get out of our bubbles of comfort more often

( and I'm also talking to myself here )

For sure, we should step outside our comfort zone as often as we can!

Uh wow what a view. And weather wise nearly the opposite from here. Here we got ~7 degrees C and rain and storm half of the day.

It must be so different to your weather haha

Really beautiful pictures there. Hive on ✌️

Thank you! We're heading back to the cold weather in Minnesota. I'm not looking forward to it. I'm glad you enjoyed the photos!

Best of both, snow and sunny days out in the open with views for miles to stretch the mind and body!

Rock formations in the region tell stories of what went before, Oh the bubble bath with a humming bird visitor how delightful that must have been!

@tipu curate

We experienced three seasons in six weeks! We still got a lot of great hikes in and made some good memories. I'll never forget that hummingbird! : )

Place looks stunning, hiking in winter not as many snakes lazing around.

Always one little memory to carry away forever, in the spur of the moment!

a curious hummingbird got into the habit of flying about fifteen feet in front of me, hovering, flying away then coming back again.

Maybe the hummingbird wanted to be your friend. Hummingbirds are always cute and adorable.

Synchronicity is the space in which our greatest lessons can be found.

Could not agree anymore. Even the soul, Nature, and the whole Universe, and its pervading intelligence demonstrate synchronicity.

Sometime soon I'll expand on this idea a little and make an entire blog post about it.

I was about to ask for that. Will be eagerly waiting for that. Thanks a ton once again, Sir, Eric. Have a great day.

Thanks, I hope you enjoy your day!
