Panicked or Prepared?

in #lifestyle6 years ago

I always like to have a good stock of foods that don’t spoil easily, and I think it’s smarter now than ever before in my life. I’m definitely not panicking and not too scared for myself in the face of Corona, but I’m being more mindful about the situation.

Things can change very drastically only in few days and people tend to hit the panic button hard. I don’t wanna be left scrambling for basic stuff if people go craycray and start hoarding like maniacs.

I don’t socialise that much as it is, and schools have yet to close, so I’m not doing any big changes in my life yet. I am however making sure I have everything I need at home if I feel like self isolation is the way to go. Food, alcohol, toiletries, cleaning supplies and basic medicines.

Thank god for being an introvert, I have no problem avoiding crowds and social interactions, and I can easily entertain myself for weeks in the comfort of my own home. Extroverts are gonna have such a hard time in the coming weeks and months, but I think you deserve it, we introverts have had to live in your world for far too long.

Has Corona made you change anything in your life? Socialise less, wash hands more often or prep in case of lockdown?

Sort:

For sure, it's good to have some stocks in.
Dude this thing has stopped my work, social connections and even my gym. Feeling pretty useless now a day. Steemit work, drawing and learning Japanese have kept me sane. I just hope this thing would end as soon as possible.

You gotta have white beans! Well prepared I must say! Good quarantaine!

Heinz beans with macaroni is so gooood, I eat that even when it's not the apocalypse :P

Not really. I don't socialize much at all. I wash my hands pretty often anyway. No lockdown preparations. We have a lot of frozen ingredients in the freezer anyway. Thinking about taking in influenza shot just to avoid becoming a carrier even if I wouldn't get sick myself. It's important to try and do one's part in making sure there is hospital capacity when Corona really hits our neck of the woords. The influenza season is pretty much over, though.

I'm definitely more concerned being the carrier than being sick myself, my parents are not young anymore so they are who I am scared of getting infected. If things get a lot worse, I won't be seeing them for a while. It's very important to make sure not to do anything that will put any unnecessary pressure on the healthcare system.

Never a bad time to prepare for a Zombie Apocalypse. As a role-playing nerd, I always respect such stuff.

Nerds and those who've had their foil hats on for years already will be smarter in the face of this kind of trouble :D

As movies have proven time and time again.

In the Netherlands everything is going to be send home. As of today if you feel sick or koach or nose cold or fever you must stay home till 31 of March.

I bought some stuff today. We the Netherlands have a very good distribution network one of the best, but you never know. I forgot about the beans or alcohol or very important water bleach sugar salt.

Well, it's getting a little out of hand here in Estonia. People are shopping like crazy and shelves are empty in many stores. Especially toilet paper is in demand :D As of today many schools have closed and probably more will close also all of the bigger events are canceled. Just now Latvia announced emergency situation, don't know when it will happen in Estonia.

I am not panicking at all but I'm a little worried that I might be put to compulsatory leave because I work as a photo laboratory specialist in photoshop and it's in the shopping center. So when the government says to close the shopping mall then im most probably out of work.

Oh, and I'm fortunate that my USA travel was happening at the right time because Europeans are now forbidden to enter the country :D

Stacking food and stacking sats is all I’ve been doing! We have 17 cases so far but this is the first week, I’ll continue to stock pile and stay my ass at home as much as possible! I even stopped playing soccer now and just exercising at home this shits not going to catch me off gaurd

Winter's coming also in SA, so it won't be as hot as the rest of the continent right?

Yes that’s right but our winters are still sunny as shit and like 20 something our summers are like 34 plus! Also depends on what part like where I am by the sea will be different to inland

But I don’t think the heat matters that much because it’s going hard core in Egypt and that place is hot and dry AF I don’t even get how people live their let alone diseases

That's good news I guess. If we get a summer anything as nice as your winter, we'll be lucky :)

As for Egypt, I think it's people that returned from Europe and Asia that brought it in. Also a lot of people cover up - especially women so the sunshine doesn't fully get to do it's thing.

I love food.

My panry is packed of cans normally. I keep a freezer full of half meat / half veggies under normal circumstances.

I had a bowel condition when I was younger, this led to me having an irrational amount of toilet paper in the house at all times.

The ensuing panic here in Australia where a lot of our foods are and household consumables are produced locally is absurd.

Even more so that I restocked the entire house of all things (floor cleaner, cat litter, laundry powder, tinned goods) about three weeks ago. I guess I'm just an early adopter shrug

Australia has a really old population, and I live very close to a whole bunch of retirement homes. The local hospital isn't being used to contain any cases in my suburb, so it will be horrific if there's an outbreak in the local area. There's probably several thousand geriatrics within a five-seven block radius of where I live.

People act very irrationally in face of a crisis. I of course think a certain level of preparation is always a good idea, but thinking we'll suddenly run out of toilet paper and pasta is insane. We have bides in almost every single bathroom in Finland, and pasta isn't very nutritious in the long run.

Our people are old too, and I heard that they will stop allowing visitors in elderly care homes, both to protect the old, and the nursing staff.

Australia just cancelled the F1, limited gatherings of more than 500 people...

It's gonna be a fun few weeks / months / epochs... lol

That's a lot of coconut :)

To be fair though, along with avocado, it's the food that can keep you alive the longest (if you were to pick just one).

Trying to survive on avocados sounds like the worst idea ever. They are perfectly ripe for about three seconds, what a nightmare!

I didn't change anything, haha

Living on the edge!

I'm now washing my hands more frequently... once a year whether they need it or not :)

Christmas and Mid Summer has worked well for me.
